Note: this is the same recipe as Barriquée Sour, but it doesn’t get infected with lactobacillus bacteria and aged in sterilized barrels.
Originally it was the only version available outside of North America; then followed by the Barriquée Sour European version (that is not produced anymore); nowadays also the Barriquée Sour is available in Europe.

Bottle at home, thanks to Luca (Mortlach), 14/02/14. Slow gusher. Pours a murky orange amber with a moderate off white covering that stays for the party. Nose is funky, tarte grapes, germaline tinge, dank wood, citric tinged straw, light spice. Taste comprises lemon rind, tarte green berry fruits, dank, light must, appel core on the wain, white wine oaky effect. Medium bodied, fine carbonation with a gentle prickle, semi drying close laced with tarte fructis. Nice stuff.

Bottle shared at a tasting at Beer Market Jaffa. Thanks Mortlach for this bottle. Bottled 4/10. Cloudy reddish brown. Aroma of malt, caramel, honey, dark fruits and some cardboard. Sweet flavor, malty, honey-ish, caramelly, with dark fruits and some oxidation. Finishes with a faint spicy hint. Medium-bodied.

I thought I bought the sour version but after some research I found out this is just the mild. Pours clear and dark ruby red with good white head. Aroma smells like a good amount of tart cherries. Taste is not quite the sour I expected obviously.. was tart and bitter., earthy like an expired aged ale

(bottle) clear to cloudy (bottom) amber with a small brown head; aromas of wet wood, horse blanket, sour cherry; sour flavour with a long medium sour finish, like a decent lambic

Opaque cherry / brown body with slight carbonation and a short bubbly white head that dissipates quickly but leaves enough lacing to remind you that this is beer. Summer fruit, apples in the aroma and dry hops. At first bitter apples, grapes dominate the taste but this gives way to a white wine dryness in the finish with a lasting dry and bitter aftertaste. Similar to a chardonnay in many respects, this beer is great.

375 ml bottle in Germany with much thanks to Jonas. Pours a murky dark brown with little head. Aroma is sour cherries and some malt and spices. Taste is mellow compared to the aroma. With lots of malt some sour cherries and fruit followed by alcohol. Palate is slight pushing the smooth limits but still good. I liked this one.
