Note: this is the same recipe as Barriquée Sour, but it doesn’t get infected with lactobacillus bacteria and aged in sterilized barrels.
Originally it was the only version available outside of North America; then followed by the Barriquée Sour European version (that is not produced anymore); nowadays also the Barriquée Sour is available in Europe.

37.5cl bottle acquired in trade with Boutip (thanks!). Bottle labeled May ’06. Poured a deep and cloudy amber color with a small sized off white head. Aromas of dark fruits, yeast, earthy, and caramel apples. Tastes of dark cherries, caramel, wood, and yeast. Very mild sour/tart finish. It was interesting to tastes the differences as we tasted this along with the European Sour & the Sour versions.

Poured a ruby color with a medium sized, creamy, off white head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of cherry, oak, must, earth, and a bit of plastic. Taste of vanilla, more wood, cherries, berries, yogurt, and chocolate, with a very light tartness. Thanks Steve!

rbesg06, bottled. very hazy amber with a steady cream head. massive aroma - sour lemon, french salad dressing, tomato vine, dried human blood. reasonably sour, capers in brine, cherry tomatoes, cherries, light woody sweetness. very interesting stuff

Gr0ve (2177) - Oslo, NORWAY - DEC 29, 2006
750 ml bottle. Copper coloured with a little red. Very small off-white head. Outhouse. Toilet paper and wooden aromas. Wet paper. Distant sourish aromas. Light sourness at first with a small distinct prickly sensation on the tongue. Then a mellow caramelly malt flavour balanced by soft oak. Hint of vanilla. Very gentle in fact. Mellow finish with a smooth drying mouthfeel.

Bottle provided by boutip. Pours hazy tawny with a creamy off-white average head, lasting with good lacing. Aroma is average malt (bread, straw), average hops (flowers, fruit), light yeast (dough) with notes of berries and honey. Medium sweetness, light acidity and bitterness, caramel bready malt and yeast flavor with notes of fruit. Medium bodied, creamy texture, fizzy and foamy mouthfeel.

Almost no head. Ring of offwhite foam. Dark hazy red body with carbonation. Wood and wet paper aroma with stale hop notes. Actually reminiscent of an outdoor toilet, but without the offensive bits. Taste is sharpish wood with alcohol notes, and mild wet paper. Notes of prunes and soft metal. Quite good. (0.75l bottle.)

Hazy dark mahogany hue, with a rocky tan-colored head, yeasty, toasted malt nose, with a chocolatey accent, bready dough, a subtle fruity note in the aroma follows through on a medium-bodied palate with a nice yeasty, sweet toasted malt character, with a dark dried fruits note of plums, dates, raisins, hint of nutmeg spiciness, faint mocha and rostiness, leading towards a fruity, mild bitter finish.

Bottle:Cloudy, clumps of yeast visible, very stable, thick foamy layer; solid fruity (berries), a bit sweaty nose with - nomen est omen - a decent touch of barrique and a tinge of balsamico; velvet MF, quite full bodied, sweet, a bit sourish flavour; vinous-fruity, sweet and a bit "woody" finish. Very good stuff, mille grazie joss !

Bottle at Mentana 104, Parma.Dark brown colour, some sediment and a light khaki head. Complex sweet and sour fruit nose with vanilla. Vanilla flavours matched by ood, sweet and sour fruit. Dry finish. Good carbonation, warming alcohol. A masterpiece from Italy.

Boutip (5940) - Gatineau, Quebec, CANADA - OCT 27, 2006
Bottle: Poured an hazy dark brown color ale with a medium head with average retention. Aroma of cookie dough is quite discreet with some Belgian yeast also noticeable. Taste of cookie dough malt but with limited sweetness with a weird slightly funky finish. Body is above average with no discernable alcohol. Not exactly sure what the brewery was trying to do but this one lacks characteristics.
