BeerPrince (1701), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Sep 16, 2006 From John’s Marketplace. Pours a darker red/brown colour with a inch head that just floats on top and doesn’t flop. Aroma bursts with sour cherries, lots of woody and barnyard presence. Flavour is cherry and oaky with a light cognac and balsamic touch before the cherry tart finish. Quite creamy on the palate and smooth down the throat. A world classic not to be missed. nhorween (639), Chicago, Illinois, USA Sep 15, 2006 Bottle, 2005. Very nice color. Deep amber body that’s quite clear with some slight sedimentation. Nice white head. Aroma is tart and woody with notes of sour cherries, vanilla, vinous, appley, and it almost smells bubbly, if that’s possible. Also earthy, and musty, with some yeast. I don’t really smell any alcohol. Flavor is definitely sour and slightly sweet... more vanilla and cherries. Very well balanced flavor, not overly sweet or tart. Nice on the palate, smooth and well carbonated. Refreshing. I don’t know much about flemish sours, but I definitely enjoyed this beer. Nekronos (2261), Xalapa, Mexico Sep 15, 2006 Very sour in flavour. Good foam, with some orange alike features on the same. VEry sweet in flavour. Wheatsheaf (104), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Sep 14, 2006 Thanks go to DougShoemaker for the chance to sample this delightful beer. Sour version from the 2005 vintage. Mahogany colour with amber highlights, topped by a finely-beaded head that collapses to a lasting ring around the edge of the glass leaving good lacing. Woody and fruity aroma has nice depth. There is a whiff of mustiness, with enigmatic notes of orange zest and preserved lemons underneath the more prominent sour cherry and oak. Soft, almost creamy, fruitiness up front with flavours of cherries and currants. Beautifully tart and dry finish that hits the back of the throat and lingers on the palate. A refined and contemplative beer that envelops you in its subtle and understated complexity. jayme9874 (756), Hamburg, New York, USA Sep 13, 2006 Updated: Jul 14, 2007Murky brown-red. No head at first until it warmed a bit and all the sudden a nice 1/4 inch creamy head and lace. Rich nose of juicy sour cherries, oak, bit of apple, hits of acid, vinegar and a bit of funk. Insane. Medium bodied, watery texture. Tart cherry flavors, oak, bit of wine, lemon zest, chocolate and other nuances all very well integrated. Not nearly as acidic as I thought but this is not a bad thing. Could be bit more meaty (or more carbonation to carry flavors better) for my tastes. Alcohol nowhere to be found, finish is very clean aside from a pleasantly light acetic note that hangs around. Killer stuff and drink at cellar, I drank a bit too cold but man, did it open up. Sexy. One to hunt. muenster (339), Sevierville, Tennessee, USA Sep 11, 2006 Bottle labeled 2005. Pours murky faded copper/ rusty red color with a thin light tan bubbly head. Aroma is grapefruit, citrus, sour apple, dark fruit, earthiness, and malt. Flavor is immediately sour fruit, with yeasty, earthy notes, and a slightly bittering finish. Very well balanced. holdenn (1432), Chicago, Illinois, USA Sep 7, 2006 Bottle 2005: At first pour its a reddish amber color with a thin but fluffy off white head. The aromas begin strong but fade soon after with the dominant aroma being sour green apples and a little oak. The flavor is sour, not pucker your lips sour, but sour apples and wood, wood, wood. The sourness covers the tongue, barely carbonated, and slips away to an oakiness that briefly lingers on the sides of my tongue. I’ve never tasted anything with quite so much oak and i love it. Engelsmann (653), Copenhagen, Denmark Sep 4, 2006 Bottled. Pours a dark hazy brown with almost no head. Aroma is sour and woody. Taste is sweet, oaky, and rather sour. A very nice beer
