Two really good Flemish Sours in one night!
Clear ruby brown with a lasting tan head.
Fruity, tangy aroma.
The flavor is intense – sour and dry. Tangy.
Nice one! Shag (1922), Chattanooga, Tennessee, USA Aug 28, 2006 Ahhh hell yeah beoches this was one awesome beer. A dark brown appearance. The flavor is quite sour and funky with a lot of tart cherries showing through. The finish is very sour with a hint of nutiness. Great freaking beer! Oakes (8080), gone rambling, Vietnam Aug 27, 2006 Reddish brown colour. Major oaky aroma, slight tart cherries. Bright, fruity, voluptuous. The flavour follows suit with lots of bright oakiness and deep cherry. Slightly creamy body. A mature, refined brew. ross (1709), weddington, South Carolina, USA Aug 25, 2006 Bottle from Sean (illinismitty) Thanks man! Pours out a dark brownish red color with a very small brown head on it. Smell is slight hops, yeast, sour fruit, and oak. Taste, very similar with the oak flavors coming though nicely. You can tell this was aged in a barrel because it gives that hint. Light carbonation, but pretty easy to drink. I found myself slugging this one down while watching a dream theater concert, really this plus the concert was something to behold. This one desrves its place up top the high rated flemish sours, and this is the best one I have had the privledge to sample. Simply amazing. presario (2955), Calgary, Alberta, Canada Aug 19, 2006 2005 750ml bottle purchased at John’s Market. Sampled over the course of a couple hours with roast chicken, stir fried vegetables and ciabatta bread. Rich golden brown colour with a thin lasting head. Sour cherry nose with light vinegar. There may be some wood notes but the main scent keeps intercepting them. Deep lasting sour flavour. Modest and definitely not sweet. A delicate edged malty beer. Well suited to a large bottle over a longer period. It’s lack of added sweetness makes for a pleasant experience. marcus (1826), Sacramento, California, USA Aug 18, 2006 750ml 2005 bottle (sour version) from 1fastSTI - thank you. This dark reddish-brown ale poured with a tiny off-white head. This beer is a far cry from the standard (mostly pilsner) beers brewed in Italy. It is a real Flanders-style sour red ale similar to, but perhaps better than Liefman’s Goudenband and Rodenbach. There is a rich acidic cherry flavor, with a very dry, slightly bitter finish. It would take too much space to describe all the flavors detected in this complex brew. Suffice it to say it is well-crafted and very satisfying. PhillyBeer2112 (2084), Orange Park, Florida, USA Aug 10, 2006 This wins hands down as one of the most amazing smelling beers of all times. In addition to a sour/funky/woody tone, an initial impression of sour cherries, there’s this huge blast of flowers, primarily rose, but perhaps also jasmine, opium, and lavender - and/or honey produced from any of these flowers. Flavor sharp up front, with a burnt astringency, followed quickly by a nice lactic bite. Despite a hint of sweetness up front, the beer finishes very dry, with an almost chalky finish. Slightly vinous, like a dry red wine. I think some of the finishing bite is acetic. Generally light bodied, but certainly not watery. The mouthfeel is curious, soft from the light carbonation and smooth malting, but hard from the acidity. Darkish red-brown, cloudy, with minimal head and light lacing. antzman (313), Clarksville, Indiana, USA Jul 31, 2006 Updated: Apr 13, 2007Bottle. Pours a hazy amber with little head and a trace amount of carbonation. The smell is of tart cherries, with some oak scents as well. The flavor is really smooth. The tart cherries come through, but not in an over bearing manner. As the beer warms the oak flavors come through. A tremendous beer!
NOTE, the 2006 version seems to have some fermentation issues. No carbonation, nothing like the previous years.
