JK (2946), Richfield, Minnesota, USA Feb 3, 2006 Thanks to Hellomynameis for bringing the highlight of the Twin Cities ’06 winter get together.
This beer is outstanding in every way. One of the best aromas I have ever found in a beer. It is sour, but below that is yeast and lambic-like barnyard as well as sweet fruit. The flavor has sweet and sour elements. The sweet is very fruit, which Flemish sours can be, but rather than stopping there it has sourness as well. It completely hides the alcohol and goes down easily and soft on the palate. jcwattsrugger (5223), Florida and, New Jersey, USA Jan 30, 2006 750ml bottle-pours an offwhite head with brown/reddish color. Aroma is fruity, sour. Taste is fruit, vinegar. A nice occasional beer. hellomynameis (794), Mayer, Minnesota, USA Jan 29, 2006 Straight from my notes: Sour aroma, but so tempting. Dark brown colour with nice looking head. Wood flavours mixed up in some tart fruits with overtones of sour. Mediuem body that went down well. I was glad to be able to share this bottle with the rest of the MN beer geeks. OKBeer (1159), Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada Jan 28, 2006 750 ml bottle shared by jerc. Hazy red brown colour with a fully diminishing off-white head. Fruity, sour, dry dusty, yeasty, leathery, oak, and cherry aroma. Fruity, acidic, dusty, yeasty, cheesy, woody, and oaky flavours with a strangely light but assertive bitterness. Light bodied, dry but refreshing and quenching. Good stuff - thanks for picking this one up Jer. jerc (3861), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jan 28, 2006 Bottle. 2005 Vintage. Dark hazy brown body with a tiny white head despite a vigourous pour. Aroma leaps from the glass from about three feet away. Very woody, sour fruit aroma. Dark cherries and generic fruit. Flavour starts out slightly sour but it comes in waves over varying levels of fruit notes. Sourness is a strong characteristic rather than the sole over riding flavour. Finish is quite tart at the back of the tongue. Sweet malt hiding deep down. Fluctuations of fruit and tangy woood. Lingering sour tingle on the tonuge. Quenching like lemonade on a hot day. Average palate. Did not expect to like this much, but it has been a while since I have had a beer that merited a whole page in the notebook. Very interesting. mds (2112), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jan 23, 2006 bottle. pours a hazy brown body with a ring of white head. the aroma is out of this world - earthy dryness, cheese, also some chocolate and red plums. wow, great body. very smooth and drinkable. lots of brett character give this a very nice complexity. yeasty bread flavours. I could drink more of this. blankboy (3165), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jan 23, 2006 Bottle shared with HogTownHarry, GregClow, tupalev, Dave B. and R. -- courtesy of tupalev. Pours a murky weird looking brown with a spare off-white head. Aroma of sour fruit, oak and yeast -- nicely balanced and pleasant to smell. The flavour isn’t quite as sour as the aroma leads you to believe but it’s very flavourful and incredibly well balanced. This has to be one of easiest Sours to drink, it goes down sooo smooth. The best Flemish Sour I’ve had yet. DocLock (4648), Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA Jan 23, 2006 A big thanks to Degarth for this one. It poured hazy ruby/brown with a medium, off-white head. The aroma was a great, oaky/cherry/sherry, with layers of more fruit and red wine. The taste is tart, with a lot of cherry/berry/merlot/cabernet hints, plus a hint of oaky bourbon in the finish. This beer is fantastic, and would be just as good if it were characterized as a wine, in my opinion. One of the rare beers that I could drink until I dropped.
