tronraner (1906), Maryville, Tennessee, USA Mar 10, 2009 Bottle at nearbeer’s Spring Cleansin’. Dated 2005. The bottle opened with a vigorous gush. Once some landed in my glass, it was dark orange with a big beige head. The aroma is prune, oaken sourness, and a nice mellow wooden quality. The flavor is oak, some sourness, cherry, and a seeming alternation between wood and fruit. Good even sourness throughout. Yum. Ottima. lithy (1600), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA Mar 5, 2009 2006 Bottle. Pours a ruddy clear cherry red with a thin spattering of bubbles even from a hard pour. Vinegar, wood, cherry aroma. A bit thin. Feels flat as well. Taste is some more woody notes, a weak souring vinegar, more cherries, but a nice lingering drying finish. robinvboyer (1419), Sturgeon Falls, Ontario, Canada Feb 28, 2009 aroma of red wine, and vinegar, not the greatest aroma. THe flavor is alot more sour red wine, with touches of metal. i’m not getting any wood at all, not the greatest sour ale,its not awful, but i dont see myself having this again JFGrind (1346), Glenside, Pennsylvania, USA Feb 27, 2009 Wow, its a fete that a woody, bourbon scented dark amber ale can also be a tart, malty and fruity flavored. This is a style that I rarely consume and for 2009 Panil Barriquee is the most unique beer I’ve had so far. durhambeer (1187), Durham, USA Feb 26, 2009 2007 Bottle. Medium reddish brown cloudy pour that doesn’t look incredibly appetizing. Lovely aromas of wood and cherries, as well as some sour notes--mild balsamic and lemon. Easy to drink as far as this style goes, I think. Not overly tart and not overly acetic. More vinous than some. Some distracting metallic notes, but not too interfering. Very good, though perhaps not worth $16. k4df4l (154), DTown, Pennsylvania, USA Feb 22, 2009 Pours a ruddy red/deep coppery with a small amount of loose beige foam that quickly disappears to a tiny ring of bubbles around the edge of the glass. Sharp green apple and musty grape aromas with some light funk. Flavor is lactic sharp/tart with a definite vinous fruity quality accompanied by woody elements before finishing tart w/ green apple/grape skin, nice and dry. Moderate body and slightly under carbed. tripelthreat (75), Soquel, California, USA Feb 19, 2009 2006 bottle. Dead still reddish-amber body with absolutely no head. Aroma is vinous, cherry, some woodiness. Flavor is mildly tart, some acidity, cherry, raspberry notes, a little oaky depth. A little underwhelming overall. The complete lack of carbonation is a definite minus for me.
