40oz (182), Newport Beach, California, USA Aug 12, 2002 It’s nice to see brewers trying to think out of the box. This has the sweet maltyness of a big barleywine but the wheat twang balances the sweetness well and makes this a very refreshing beer. The whopping 9.6% is appreciated.
Avengedpoet (62), Mesa, Arizona, USA Sep 28, 2008 Thanks to Rustychiles for sharing the growler. Pours very cloudy from the wheat, a nice ruddy orange hue. Aroma was quite inscrutable. Almost reminiscent of a belgian ale in some regards - lots of fruity phenolic smells. Taste is extremely smooth, no hop bitterness to speak of. Pronounced wheat and fruity flavors. Very nice, very enjoyable. Hides the alcohol like a champ; I couldn’t taste it at all. rustychiles (480), Mesa, Arizona, USA Sep 28, 2008 Pours a deep orange/brown with a small white head. Aroma of wheat, caramel, sweet malt, esthers, yeast. Flavor is sweet bready malt, yeast, fruits, bananas, cloves, nuts, spices. A touch of bitterness in the finish. A lot going on in here, not sure what to make of it but it’s pretty good. SuperDave70 (832), Beautiful Sunny Mesa, Arizona, USA Aug 30, 2008 On tap at Papago. Pours a hazy deep brown color with a foamy off-white head that lasted through the glass. Some definite wheat characteristics in the aroma, most notably toasted grain, banana and yeast. Also sweet malt, fruit and alcohol. Unfortunately, that didn’t all quite come together in the flavor like I hoped it would. All of the elements were there, they just seemed to clash instead of blend. Seemed a bit thin on the palate as well. Still, not a bad brew overall. bu11zeye (3780), Frisco, Texas, USA Apr 14, 2008 (Draught) Pours a clear golden amber body with a medium white head. Aroma of orange, florals, mustiness, white grapes, and golden raisins. Flavor of clove, floral hops, honey, and orange peel with moderate bitterness in the finish. hellbilly (912), scottsdale über alles, Arizona, USA Mar 31, 2008 tap @ papago... unfortunately, everyone of these ratings is a different beer... as this is not the same as it was the last time i had it. but, either way it’s tasty... hazy brown (orange tinted) with a vibrant white head which leaves scattered lacing on the glass. aromas of raisins, brown sugar, toasted nuts, wood, wheat bread and yeast, banana and it’s bitter peel as well... very floral and fruity. the flavor packs all of the notes of the aroma into a tight little package. very low sweetness with a bitter herbaceous hoppy finish. lingering aftertaste of banana raisin bread. medium body with a soft mouth feel. there’s no stickiness!...
