3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Mini-keg, Vail Beer Fest.
Head is mostly diminishing.
Body is medium amber.
Aroma is moderately malty (caramel, cookie),
lightly hoppy (herbs), with notes of banana, clove, candy sugar, alcohol.
Flavor is heavily sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter.
Finish is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly to moderately bitter.
Medium to full body, velvety texture, lively carbonation, lightly alcoholic.
Fun big Belgian brew, though it didn’t knock my socks off. Lots of the "usual suspects" for an American rendition of a Belgian, like overdone banana and clove, but otherwise pleasant and enticing. As portended, in the mouth it smacked with a big dose of candy sugar without quite enough to balance it. Still, this was a delightful big Belgian-style and I wouldn’t mind trying it again someday.
