8th Big Beers, Belgians, and Barleywines. Pours clear light brown with a large, frothy, light brown head, lasting with good lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (cookie, caramel, toffee), light hops (flowers), average yeast (barnyard, earth) with notes of butter and maple syrup. Full bodied, sticky texture, average carbonation, and a bitter finish. Average duration, moderate sweetness, acidity and bitterness.

Mini-keg, Vail Beer Fest. Head is mostly diminishing. Body is medium amber. Aroma is moderately malty (caramel, cookie), lightly hoppy (herbs), with notes of banana, clove, candy sugar, alcohol. Flavor is heavily sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly to moderately bitter. Medium to full body, velvety texture, lively carbonation, lightly alcoholic. Fun big Belgian brew, though it didn’t knock my socks off. Lots of the "usual suspects" for an American rendition of a Belgian, like overdone banana and clove, but otherwise pleasant and enticing. As portended, in the mouth it smacked with a big dose of candy sugar without quite enough to balance it. Still, this was a delightful big Belgian-style and I wouldn’t mind trying it again someday.
