fishonmyplane (107), Granby, Connecticut, USA Oct 24, 2003 Updated: Nov 5, 2003Nice amber hue, medium white head, and excellent lacing on the glass. The flavor is very good, not to mention distinctive. Lots of fruit and a nice hop bite in the finish, with just enough maltiness to balance it out. I think of this as a very Americanized version of the style because of the high hop level. I enjoyed this beer and I'm beginning to think Paper City is a bit underrated.. but on the bright side it seems like they're starting to get better distribution, so hopefully this will help their ratings. Volgon (2462), Manchester, New Hampshire, USA Oct 19, 2003 12 OZ bottle: Hazy orange color, citrus hops dominate the nose with some malts in the background. Strong malty taste with a full body. UnionMade (621), Connecticut, USA Jul 16, 2003 The next in their limited release line. The smoked porter was wicked, so i had high expectations for this. Pours a medium amber, with a slight reddish cast to it. Head is off white and somewhat oily looking. Aroma is mostly pale malt, with a touch of apple fruitiness, mild hops and a bit of grassiness. Flavor is strange. More of less right for the style, but feels sort of ham fisted. All the right flavors are there, but in perhaps not the right proportions. A strange grassy hoppiness, with a citric finish that doesn't go well with the nutty maltiness. It starts out fine, but ends too rough, and I think the carbonation is a little too agressive, and drowns out some of the more subtle flavors. Finish is mildly dry, but strange. Starts out good and finishes confused. Hopistotle420 (1177), Amherst, Massachusetts, USA Jul 10, 2003 Orange-amber hue. Spicy hop nose. Light, off-white, sticky head. Pale malts, weird smell, then its just an onslaught of bitterness, light fruitiness, and peppery bitter finish. Oily, yet thin bodied, not terrible, but I dont know if Id want it again...
