3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle 179. Pours a hazy maroon with fine off-white head. Settles in minutes with minimal lacing. Aroma is sweet, stone fruit, oaky, vinous, mildly tart and funky. Flavor is very fruit, sweet, and juicy up front, with a mild alcohol, oaky/vinous, mildly tart, cherry, chocolate and mild roast finish. Roast is subtle, but develops as it warms, also becomes fruitier. Reminds me slightly of a mild version of their sour stout. The tartness, oak, and roast are an interesting combination. Mildly bitter, wild/lactic/tart, finish is slightly boozy and a little rough. Moderate carbonation. medium body, and a slightly dry but warm finish. Unusual, interesting, mildly roasted, definitely out of character for the style but enjoyable all the same. Certainly not what I expected.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Flip top 750 - slight gusher - dark ruby pour - thick tan lace - nose of doughy yeast, dark fruits (plum, raisin), cherry skins, light earth/oxidation, moderate Bordeaux notes, some oak and spice - there is a little bit of acetone and vinegar underneath it all, though - soft carbonation - medium body - fairly sweet up front, with some toffee, plum, currant - moderate dusty yeast, dough, and spice through the middle - medium sharp acid and moderate oak in the finish - some nice stuff happening, but itís a bit messy - alcohol is well-masked, though - meh, itís drinkable enough, I guess - however, this is the fourth beer I have had from this brewer, and three of the four have been unimpressive - I think Iím close to writing them off.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 10/20
750 ml. Corked and Caged. 327 of 960 bottled 11/27/12. Pours a medium, poorly retained light beige head, over an initially clear, brown (SRM 30) body.....nose is plum, cherry, light coffee....taste is vinous, plum, dried cherry, slightly sweet, finishing with a bitter bite.....mouth feel heavy of medium, hot fusel alcohol, low carbonation. This was a very interesting experience. The top of the bottle, which had been upright for some time, had minimal yeast and was quite harsh. The bottom was much smoother with less alcohol heat. Both had appropriate aromas and flavors, with the exception of the very high alcohol heat which dominated too much. BJCP 7/3/9/4/7

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pour out of 750 mL bottle, dark reddish brown pour with white head, aroma brought notes of sweet nuts, caramel, toffee, nuts, touch of spice, yeast, slight cocoa powder, hints of slightly tart oak and fruit notes, but very hidden. Taste is a mix of caramel and toffee, roasted malts, some slight nuts, dark fruits, hints of spice, finishing fairly sweet, slightly dry. Pretty standard dunkel style brew.
