3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Golden/amber with a large foamy off-white head. Tart aroma with some sour apple and earthy barn funk. Flavor is tart yet not sour; has some apple and smooth sweet earthy pale malt, some barn hay, and a light grassy and apple tinged bitterness. Nice.

2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 10/20
750 ml. swing top bottle. Number 172 of 1350. Opens a slight gusher, but if you keep your thumb on the top you can decompress it gradually. Pours a thick, well retained, ivory head, with some lacing, over a hazy reddish orange (SRM 150 body.....nose is apple, musty basement.....taste is tart apple, slight mustiness, slight floral, sweet throughout, with light vinous qualities....mouth feel light of medium, carbonation adds spritz on the tongue. This beer does not taste bad, but it is not really a Saison. It is more of a mixture of cider and Saison. It is sweet rather than dry, the hops are buried, spices are hidden. This is another experiment gone awry. BJCP 6/3/10/4/

2.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
Head is initially small, fizzy, off-white to light brown, mostly diminishing.
Body is muddy medium amber.
Aroma is moderately malty (caramel), moderately yeasty (basement), with notes of apple juice, lemon juice, sour apples, random fruit peels (kind of composty), light notes of cinnamon and alcohol.
Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, lightly bitter.
Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, lightly to moderately bitter.
Medium body, watery/syrupy texture, fizzy carbonation, lightly alcoholic.
Alas, it smells very much like the dump bucket at a sour ale tasting where there happened to be some ciders on the menu as well. Completely unfocused/random and clumsy. Putting apples in a so-called saison is probably not the best idea from the start, and the resulting brew is not much better than the concept. More of a novelty concoction than anything, and kind of hard to take seriously.

2.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
750ml swing top bottle picked up at Argonaut earlier today - the label is a little simple, but I like the presentation in the swing tops - pours a medium amber - turbid, with a moderate, frothy lace - nose is pretty interesting - some mild wine and oak, quite a bit of earthy, musty, basement character, light sourness, dusty yeast and some sweet apple (though a bit too sweet, almost like candy apples) - carbonation is full, but soft and creamy in the mouth - flavor begins with a sharp, prickly acidity that lasts throughout the experience, as well as a pronounced metallic copper note - a touch of oak, vanillins - some band-aid/plastic phenols through the middle - a bit of sour, earthy apple - a bit grainy on the tail end - finishes with the same sharp acid and metallic note with which it began - pretty messy - this will definitely keep me from dropping another 11.50 for another one of their products - maybe if some else buys it.
