4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Slightly hazy deep golden with a bubbly and somewhat unattractive head, like cola foam that didnt recede fast enough--though eventually receded to a thin cap. Musty pale golden nose with biscuits and basement funk with some hay and cereal. Tart and fruity flavor with some lacto-like bacteria on the front followed by hay and apricot and tart tree fruits. Calm hay and pseudobiscuit finish. Lovely.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle pour at the brewery. Pale orange appearance with a small head, diminishing to nothing. Aroma of funky yeast, barnyard, tart fruits, citrus zest, bready malts, light banana and light barrel notes. Similar flavor, funky, tart, mildly fruity, vinous and lightly bitter hops. Light to medium body, soft carbonation, easy to drink. Smooth, dry and refreshing.

3.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle: Cloudy murky pale copper color. Citrusy aroma with mild yeast and a spritz taste of lemon, quite close to a sour ale. Average body. I liked this and thought it was pleasant. I liked that it was more tart and less yeasty than a lot of Saisons. Thanks Indiana_Red for sharing and to your dad for bringing this from Colorado!

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
750 ml. swing top bottle. 101 of 960. Pours an almost nonexistent off white head, over a cloudy, dark yellow (SRM 4) body.......nose is vinous, sour apple cider, light cereal, hints of spice, barnyard, very light hints of oak barrel.....taste is vinous, light spice, finishing lightly sour with a hint of bitterness....mouth feel light of medium, lightly astringent, lightly acidic, low carbonation. This misses the style by a lot. Appearance is off, with minimal head and lacing as opposed to lots of both. Carbonation is low rather than effervescent. The malt back bone is subdued, spices light. Were Lactobacilli used to create the sourness? Also this style is usually not barrel aged which adds all sort of variations. Eliminate the barrel and see what comes out!! BJCP 6/1/11/3/6

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Bomber. Citrusy, sour aroma with a lot of maltiness. Pours golden colored with very little head. A lot of orange in the taste with other citrus. Finishes sour with a hint of banana. Good summery beer.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 11/20
750 ml swing top botle poured a hazy god with a lingering ring of off white foam. Aromas of straw, citrus, vinous notes and a hint of oak. Palate was light bodied and crisp with a dry finish. Flavors of straw, earthiness and light vinous notes with a crisp dry finish. Not bad, just a bit disappointing.

2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
Head is initially small, fizzy, white, fully diminishing.
Body is hazy dark yellow.
Aroma is lightly malty (toasted grain), lightly yeasty (barnyard), with notes of banana, cotton candy / bubble gum, sour apple, soap, alcohol, wood.
Flavor is moderately sweet, moderately acidic, lightly bitter.
Finish is lightly sweet, moderately acidic, lightly to moderately bitter.
Light to medium body, watery/syrupy texture, fizzy carbonation, lightly alcoholic.
I’d sworn off this brewery, but a 6.5% "saison" made me cave in to the tune of $11.50, just because it’s a style I’m so keen on. Sadly, it’s a pretty difficult beer to appreciate...it’s just so cluttered and messy...aroma offers sickly-sweet candy odors alongside sour and slightly wild characteristics. In the mouth, it’s much the same...all over the place; syrupy sweetness paired with slightly-off puckering sourness. Not much bitterness. I’m really not sure what they were trying to make...maybe an old-school saison at higher gravity, or maybe a modern saison that got infected (either intentionally or not)...but it ends up similar to most of the other Paradox brews I’ve tried; haphazard and vague. I have often thought that the base brews (before the barrel treatment) might be nice in some examples (or at least better than the finished products are), but this is not one of those cases...I have to imagine the base beer for this was an Americanized banana-bomb rendition, but thankfully the barrel aging dulled those aspects a bit.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle 816. Pours a bright orange with rapidly settling white head and no lacing. Aroma is lactic, floral, grass, and mildly fruity. Flavor is moderately tart, fruity, apricot, with a moderately lactic and mildly vinous finish, very mild herbal tones. Slightly oaky and mildly bitter. Decent, a bit one dimensional and seems a bit rough/raw. Moderate to medium carbonation, medium-light body, and juicy texture, mildly dry finish. A fairly tart, lactic, juicy saison. Kind of rough, paradox has better offerings.
