3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
750 ml swing top bottle, no. 849 / 1440. Itís a bit of a gusher when opened. Pours hazy copper amber with a huge meringue-like off white head that continues to grow for a long time and leaves a lot of lacing.
The aroma is sweey bready malts and toffee with some old hops and some spicy rye.
The flavor is sweet bready malts with some rye and belgian yeast and a bit of vinous alcohol with a decent bitterness in the finish. The mouth feel is a bit thin and watery.
Overall, itís interesting. I donít normally like the Belgian IPAs. This one seems a bit sweet and washed out and seems to try to have too much going on.

3.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Hazy amber with a thick foamy light beige head. Aroma is stupendous. The nose is filled with aromatic perfumey hops, a bit of sage and lemon and potpourri, with a gentle touch of rye bread dough and grapefruit rind. Flavor is not as rad, tastes kinda sour and herbal with a bit too much sage or lavender or something, with a too-much rye malt backbone that comes across as plastic-y and herbal bitter.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Head is initially huge, frothy, rocky, off-white, mostly lasting.
Body is cloudy/muddy medium amber.
Aroma is lightly to moderately malty (cookie, toasted grain, caramel), moderately hoppy (resin, grapefruit), with notes of alcohol, sour apple/lemon, varnish, wood, plastic.
Flavor is heavily sweet, moderately acidic, lightly bitter.
Finish is moderately sweet, moderately acidic, moderately bitter, slightly unclean.
Medium to full body, syrupy/velvety texture, lively carbonation, moderately to heavily alcoholic.
Sadly, I think Iím done with this brewery...they seem to have some potential in their base beers, but the barrel treatments seem to mess things up all too often. This particular entry is a jumbled mess of characters with off notes and an infection (evidenced by the explosive bottle and the off-sour aroma and flavor). Also seems quite a bit hotter than the advertised 7.6%...totally thought this was 10%+ before I looked at the label. Was the beer pretty good prior to the aging? Probably so (although Iím guessing too resinous for my tastes), but weíll never know because the barrel thing seems to define this brewery and thus they will likely never drop that aspect. Hope the situation improves in a few years.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
750 ml. Swing top bottle. Number 54 of 1440. Pours an enormous, well retained, tiny bubbled head with extensive lacing, over a hazy gold (SRM 5) body.....nose is light barnyard, light citrus, hints of tropical fruits (mango, peach), pine, light floral tones.....taste is light barnyard, hints of pineapple, citrus peel, hints of sweetness, very light vinous tones, rye spice, leading to a moderate, citrus toned, bitter finish....mouth feel sticky, slightly astringent, alcohol tones present, carbonation adds a touch of tingle. This is a very complex melange of aromas and flavors. While it is nicely balanced betwixt the malt, hop and yeast contributions, in the aggregate it is a bit muddled . There is too much happening for a beer this young. More time in the bottle will help balance this out. BJCP 8/2/14/4/7

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pour out of 750 mL bottle, hazy orange pour with white head, aroma brought nice notes of hops with some rye, pine, grass, and other spicy notes, hints of some oak, biscuit, bread in there, some nice white wine and fruit notes balance slightly. Taste is a mix of oak, rye, spice and some biscuit, mixing into some nice grass and pine, flowing well into some white wine, fruit, and oak, finishing fairly bitter, slightly dry.
