Bottle (650 ml). Split 3-ways. From GothGargoyle, thanks! I received this one in April 2013 so it’s at least 2½ years old. Pours black with a medium beige head, moderate retention but also easy to revive, leaving little lacing. Aroma is enticing with loads of fudge along a strong maple syrup presence (if it’s true that it fades with age I can’t imagine how maple syrup forward this was at first), bourbon, vanilla, molasses and of course some alcohol. Taste is sweet but not cloying with loads of fudge and maple syrup again along some alcohol heat, bourbon, vanilla, molasses, mild spiciness and very mild bitterness. Medium to full body, leaning more toward full. Moderate carbonation. Syrupy finish. Gentle warmth. This is surprisingly well balanced. The maple syrup is really present without being overpowering or cloying, the barrel treatement isn’t overdone. This is pretty good and certainly better than the grossly overrated Founders CBS.

Bottle. Thick and black in appearance, like melted dark chocolate. The late-arriving head is the color of cinnamon. Oaky nose. A bit of smoke, dark chocolate, maple, booze and a hint of something metallic. The flavor’s very smooth -- bitter dark chocolate in the front gives way to sweet maple, cocoa, vanilla and graham cracker at the swallow. Deeeelish. Velvety medium body has moderate fizzy carbonation. A sweet, maple-heavy brew. Very tasty.

Bomber courtesy of gnashville, shared at a Dark Beer tasting in Osaka. Pitch black with a solid light beige head the leaves a bit of lacing behind. Bourbon heat and maple in the nose. Tangy oaky woodsiness, bourbon, a bit of fruits with maple in the finish. Medium-thin bodied with quite a smooth texture. Man after warming up this has the most wonderful velvety luscious mouthfeel and the flavor stepped up to the next level. My favorite of the night perfect for sipping as it really opens up and evolves over time.

[Bottle (650ml) shared with GregClow, jercraigs & mabel -- c/o j&m] Pours a very dark brown with red hues and an average size lasting frothy light-brown head. Aroma of roasted malt, chocolate, wood, a hint of bourbon, some coffee and light hops. Flavour of roasted malt, chocolate, coffee, wood, vanilla, light hops and a bit of alcohol. Medium bodied. Good stuff.

2014-05-02. Black body with a nice tan head and lace. 3++ Aroma is sweet dark malt, light alcohol and muted roast. Flavour is fairly sweet, good amount of sweet vanilla and bourbon, a hint of maple that may be there or just in my head. Lingering nice bourbon, and light wood. Dark malt core. Smooth medium to full bodied palate, soft carbonation. Smooth and relatively drinkable for the abv. Bottle is probably close to a year old but it’s pretty nice. Bottle via trade with Ferris

Countbeer (6222) - Best of E-Town mit 2 Brauhausen, NETHERLANDS - APR 12, 2014
Bottle: Served in a Chouffe glass: Small beige creamy light brown foamy head on top of a black colored beer. Aromas of bourbon, cream, mocha, molasses, coffee, light liquorice, light toffee. Wow delicious aroma! Flavours of bourbon, chocolate, vanilla, coffee, espresso, coffee beans, molasses, wood, roast, some liquorice, light spicy, some mocha, some prunes and bitters. Aftertaste is a mix of coffee, bourbon, bitter, chocolate, coffee beans... Low carbo, creamy silky mouthfeel, full bodied and a creamy oily texture. Wow, very interesting beer, balanced, deep and somewhat complex...
