COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In the 18th century, this bold, strong stout was brewed in London for the long and treacherous trip to the Imperial courts of Russia. In keeping with this stoic tradition, this whiskey-barrel aged imperial stout is warm, full bodied and fit for a Czar. Ingredients: Roasted Barley, Pale, Chocolate, Munich & Crystal Malts, Magnum & Fuggles Hops, Yeast.

This is an amazing Imperial Stout, it’s been my favourite beer for the last year.

A 650 ml bomber from Legacy Liquor in Vancouver. An oily black beer with a moderate head that resembles in color the crema of a good espresso. The aroma is of heavily roasted malts, whereas the flavor is a glorious coffee and chocolate bomb. A real sipper, this one!

(650ml bottle) Purchased at Liquor Plus Douglas. Pours a medium, rich brown head atop a black head. Toasted notes, cocoa bits and black licorice. The flavour is smooth - some soy and deep roasted and toffee malts and waffer bars. Bang on in presentation and execution. Very nice. --- reviewed on RateBeer.com

Bottle from the brewery shop
Black color, seems oily initially, but it forms a nice brownish and compact head, medium sized. Interesting aroma, with the expected vanilla and also with a lot of creamy nuances. It’s full bodied, with round mouthfeel; the flavor of roasted malts is milder than expected, while the flavor of dark chocolate is more present but not as rich; it has instead a quite evident character of cream and of tobacco; and some Bourbon vanilla; correct bitterness level. The final is apparently shorter than usual and carries less of the flavor components.
Maybe it’s missing a vibe, and depth, but it’s already quite good.

Poured from a chilled 650 ml bottle. Extremely dark pour with mocha colored creamy head that disappeared fairly quickly. I have no idea why, but I smell something oily, coconut oil, maybe from the wax coating that was put outside. I smell sone whisky as well. The first sip of this dark elixir, fills your mouth with a variety of complex tastes. Very smooth liquid that coats your entire mouth. Initial taste is of smooth chocolate and burnt malts. It leaves a slight taste of smokey whiskey with a hint of something subtle, maybe vanilla.

Solid black with a good sized tan head that leaves a little lacing. Aroma is roasted malts, chocolate, coffee, dates, vanilla. Oily mouthfeel, well balanced on the palate, warm finish with a slightly mineral aftertaste. Taste is bittersweet chocolate, ovaltine, dates, soy sauce, star anise, vanilla, hint of bourbon. Overall quite good - they didn't overdo the barrel aging and it doesn't come across too boozy.
