Between raiding and conquering, the Vikings worked up quite a thirst. This traditional Finnish beer is strong, unfiltered and made with rye, barley and juniper berries. We decided to compliment ours with Chinook and Simcoe hops for an added piney flavour.

Aroma is somewhat light with caramel, clove and earthiness. Taste is a pleasant sweet malt profile balanced well with a nice hop profile. Light tartiness remains but nothing substantial. Appearance is a murky orange with a thin pearl head that retains well.

Interesting brew. Pours a very dark, muddy looking brown with almost no head but for a few beige bubbles. The nose is richly roasted with big spicy rye notes as well as toffee and nutty aromas. Big juniper and floral aroma extends into the middle with light rye malt and toffee. Hazelnuts and almond flavour with toffee and caramel. Nice finish with a richness and light bitterness.

Monstrous flavour. Surprising in every way. My first sahti so not much context, but I would drink repeatedly.

Aroma of berries and some other dark fruits.. pours up thick and dark redish brown, deffinite taste of juniper and other subtle spices, quite boozy taste..decent mouthfeel only slightly oily for a heavy boozy hitter..slight grassy aftertaste ..

On tap. Dark amber pour with medium sized light tan head. Aroma of rye malts, spices, juniper berries. Taste of rye malts, slight hops, very herbal and juniper berries. Light bodied, higher carbonation, weird herbal finish. Interesting but not all that great.

Bottle - Floral and piney with a nice sweetness. Deep cloudy copper with a rich beige head. Piney, boozy and a bit malty in the finish. This smelled pretty nice but a bit to herbal and boozy for me.

341ml bottle pours an amber color with a finger of light beige lacing leaving some decent lacing on the glass. Aroma is grasses and grains. Taste is a light roasted grain and grassy hop bitterness with a dry finish. An interesting ale that needs to be sampled.

Draught taster at Darby's. Hazy copper. Aroma of berries, pine needle, rye spice. Taste is sweet with a bit of bitterness. Effervescent crispness and a low dry finish.

Bomber. Starts clear darker brown copper, fading tan foam. Aroma of spicy rye and sweet malt. Taste is mostly earthy spicy rye and sweet toasty toffee malt, some herbal sub-alpine coniferous notes. Average carbonation, medium bodied, moderately hopped. Ends murky and muddled with a slight hint of citrus. An odd duck. NFL (Not For Lagerboys)

Had to try it. Muddy chestnut...a little too brown. Nice thick head. Hoppy aroma, light citrus and pine. Spicy, ok this is a vaguely hoppy, slightly berryish fruity yeasty ale. I get a little juniper (berry?) but standard ale yeast. This is no sahti.
