We put the kettle on for a long boil and this Scottish wee heavy is what we got. Rich Caramel is complemented by sea salt for a complex intense flavour. Another? Aye

650ml bottle pours brown in color with a finger and a half of off-white head that leaves some spotty lacing on the glass. Aroma is dominated by caramel. Taste is caramel malty sweetness with a mild citrus and herbal bitterness. Medium bodied with mild carbonation. An interesting interpretation of the style and definitely worth a try.

Draft - Sweet caramel and salted taffy. Clear copper with a thin white head. Sweet salted caramel, kinda like the cheap caramels for Halloween. Not bad and a bit nutty throughout.

Nice winter beer, a little too fresh for a winter beer. Very smooth with a subtle scotch aftertaste. A touch sweet and salty but not overbearing.

Cask Days 2014. Pours a ruby caramel with a one finger, bubbly head. Aroma is a big caramel with dark fruits. Yum! Taste is great. Bread, caramel, dark fruits, and just a hint of salt. Medium body with a smooth texture. Overall awesome.

Drought. Dark amber-red with creamy off-white head, sharp caramel aroma, slightly flat and salty cherry-caramel taste, low cArbonation, thin body, sweetish ending. Leaves a just-consumed candy taste in your mouth. Could be better.

Pours deep gold into a thistle. Creamy head quickly recedes to still. Uh oh... this is not a "Scotch ale.. it’s a Scottish ale...". Salty caramel bullseye and candy corn aromas. Sweet, sticky candy corn and hot caramel upfront turning to bitter sour earth in the lasting finish. Yuk...

Rich copper and deep amber coloured body with a thinnish, tan one centimetre tall head. Aroma of nuts, earth, caramel, brown sugar, apples, figs, prunes and a lot of malt - very nice and rich smelling. Medium-bodied; Assertive nutty flavours of pecans and walnuts with a very rich and sweet flavour of caramelised sugars, some light cream and a touch of malt. Aftertaste is all about the caramel, brown sugar and raisin flavours with a great balance of malt, alcohol and nuts - a very well-balanced beer. Overall, a nice beer with a great texture, complexity and depth and I don’t like this style too much, but this is a very good representation of the style. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased at Arrowine in Arlington, Virginia on 02-June-2014 for US$8,99 sampled at home here in Washington.

The label wasn’t too promising, but, you know... book... cover. I love Scotch Ales. And there aren’t that that many out there, really. And I’ve not had too many Canadian craft beers that have impressed me, outside of Quebec. But here’s one! Really rich, full body and flavor. Granted, they achieve the caramel character through the addition of, well, caramel. Not caramelized malt, but actual caramel. Friends who were tasting it, too, commented, "Score Bar or Heath Bar." I agree. Not overly sweet -- but the perception of sweetness.

A very good scotch ale. Pours a bright ruby red with a thick white head. Smells of Carmel, sea salt and cherries. Taste is creamy, has lots of salty caramel and maple syrup right at the front, with some vanilla ice cream in the finish. Very good, and not as malty as many scotch ales.

Bottle. Medium to dark brown with a small tan head. Aroma has a lot of caramel. Taste is toffee, caramel. Not so much salt.

Big bottle. Caramel brown pour. Toffee butterscotch and roasted malts. Lots of salt...
