COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This Belgian style ale is rich in history as well as flavour. Traditionally brewed by Trappist monks far from the influence of the modern world, this complex ale starts with malty sweetness and finishes medium dry, with a touch of piety.

. Aroma is toffee, dates, raisins, plum, Belgian yeast. Slightly creamy mouthfeel, medium-full body, sweet and fruity on the palate with a little booze bite on the finish. Taste is toffee, dates, raisins, caramel. Great to see a BC brewery doing a decent Belgian! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

nearbeer (3722) - Knoxville, Tennessee, USA - MAY 31, 2014
650 ml. says 9.8% abv. Pour is hazy copper-brown with a lasting disc of cream on top. Nose is sweet with dark toffee, dark fruit and touches of spicy clove and ginger. Tastes of dark caramel, prune, chocolate, toasted walnut. Also some notes of apple and banana bread. Finish has just enough dry-spicy yeast to check the huge malty goodness. Medium-heavy body has smooth, medium carbonation and is thinned out by a warming hint of the near 10%. Sweet but never sticky, this is a nice dessert beer.

Murky brown, thin ring of foam.Smells like honey, molasses, and candy sugar. Very sweet and malty, some alcohol burn, and woody hops in the finish. Not bad, but I don’t that this is something I’d get again...

Bottle - 750mL crowned. Label shows ABV as 9.8%. Murky copper pour with a short, fizzy tan head. Aroma is sweet and candyish with dark fruit, caramel, malt, yeast and bubblegum notes. Taste is candyish but boozy with sweet malt, caramel, bubblegum notes, yeast, hints of banana, dark bread and dark fruits. Body is medium with a light, prickly carbonation. Boozy warmth to this as well. Ends with more sweet malt, caramel, bubblegum, candied banana, yeast and dark fruit.

Braudog (5743) - Hampton, Virginia, USA - MAY 5, 2014
Bottle. Dark and murky, this has almost no visible body and zero head. There’s a sugary aroma, not particularly swaying. This drinks with a soda-like sweetness, root beer, bad syrup. There’s no body or effervesence at all, which doesn’t help this along at all. Not a great first impression. (#5508, 5/5/2014)

Muddy amber, no head. Rank phenols...all bubblegum. Sweet, bubblegum, alcohol. Really rudimentary quad...strong and phenolic yes but it goes nowhere and does nothing.

Murky brown, Belgian yeast is evident, dark fruit flavors (raisins?). Very average.
