Doppelganger (1199), Oxford, Oxfordshire, England Jun 30, 2008 Bottle, one of several very generous bonus bottles from my trade with Douglas88. Thanks! Warm amber, lots of butter colored fine head. Dry biscuit aroma along with an odd rusty nails quality, musty hay. Very dry toasty malt with a blood metallic edge. A twist of smokey grapefruit pith in the finish. Refreshing, but otherwise kind of odd. Wondering if this might have a bit of infection: oddly phenolic in a way that seems like bacteria may be at work.
mikey (321), farmington, Utah, USA Jun 6, 2008 Poured on tap an amber hue with an off-white head that faded quickly. The nose was of burnt caramel and flowery hops. The flavor starts malty with a little nuttiness. Dry biscuit comes next. and finishes dry with a little citrus rind. It’s ok. A slightly above average amber.
ditmier (224), Boise, Idaho, USA Apr 17, 2008 2008 Bottle - Thanks be to douglas88, slight aroma, amber colour, small frothy head, flavour on the front end of toasty malt, fleeting hop bitterness. The taste completely falls off on th back end, but the carbonation picks it up nicely. This was a nice treat... robinvboyer (1054), Sturgeon Falls, Ontario, Canada Apr 4, 2008 surprise bottle from Douglas88.
nice amber pour, good head, retention, and lacing. Interesting aroma, some nice hopping, good malt, very well balanced. Very nice earthy flavour, some good grassy notes, and a nice bitter finish. Wicked session ale. rayg1 (408), Ft. Mill, South Carolina, USA Apr 2, 2008 In interesting one Douglas send my way, thanks man! Pours out a deep brownish red with almost no head to it. Aroma is surprising as it was more bitter than I expected, no pine or citrus i the aroma of hops just bitterness. Maybe a touch of sweetness there at the end. Taste is very malty and doughy with a hint of sweet caramel. Pretty hoppy for an amber and I have to say I can’t complain about that, a pretty decent beer here.
