4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Started going back to park tavern this month and have been pleasantly surprised to find the beer remarkably improved! This was a good solid IPA, the right amount of maltiness and strong on hops. Not overcarbonated so it slipped down the throat beautifully. This is what I expect but find it hard to get from a brewpub. Good job guys!

4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
I actually had to order a full pint of this one after getting through the sampler just to make sure it really was as good as I thought it was. This runs the gamut of hop families with American hops like centennial, EKG for the British varieties and Hallertau (I think) for the noble hops. There’s a solid malt backbone, but unlike the Fallfest, this is obviously not intended to be a showcase for the malt, but instead the malt is obviously just there to give some body to support the symphony of hops that strike your sinuses and caress your tongue. There’s an unusual berry aroma intertwined with the hops that I’m thinking may be a product of the EKG, but I could be wrong. All I know is that this is the best IPA I’ve had in a long while.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
UPDATED: JUN 28, 2007 Draught at the brewpub. Pours slightly hazy orange/yellow with a moderate white head. Aroma is grassy, with a bit of malt and some pine and grapefruit hops. Flavor is markedly grassy, with a little yeast, plus slightly sweet malt and some (but not too many for the style) hops. Decent.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Medium orange, clear. Nice aroma, citric and pine. Initial flavor had citric, pine, a touch of cat, pineapple. I would guess Simcoe, Amarillo, and Centennial floating around here. I could also be entirely wrong. Later, as it warmed, a very clear infection note arose. Apparently something sinister is lurking in the ale tanks. Too bad, this could have really been great.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
On tap at the brewpub in Atlanta. Pours a clear, golden colored body with a thin, creamy, white head that dissipates slowly and leaves a good amount of lacing. Aroma has some distinct maltiness with a medium sweet caramel and light crystal. A lighter, soapy, earthy hop with some grapefruit. Similar flavor. A bit bready with a moderate caramel and crystal sweetness. A good amount of earthy hops grow into the finish where this dries with a medium-high, soapy bitterness. Lengthy aftertaste following a light to medium, somewhat thin feeling body with a light carbonation. Overall, a pretty bland IPA. It has a nice bitterness level, but its just not rubbing me the right way. Not bad, just unremarkable.

2.9 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Strong, distinct malt backbone that sneaks the hops in the back door. Surprisingly strong, even for an IPA in terms of gravity.

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
In short: A tasty, juicy and annoyingly astringent IPA. A bit off.
How: Tap at brewpub
The look: Clear dark golden body topped by an off-white ring of foam
In long: Unfocussed hoppy nose that is at time fruity, leafy, piney and citric. Body has that typical run-of-the-mill brewpub feeling. Not watery or thin, just very juicy, like a breakfast juice with bubbles. Juicy fruity caramel with a basic carbonation. Hops bring a good fruity bitterness. Long finish. Given the family/touristy that Park Tavern is I expected a bland IPA but the beer is actually quite tasty. Most of it was ok except for a strange astringency. Very astringent in fact. And that bothered me a bit. Overall, just acceptable. I visited this Atlanta brewpub in late april 2010 when I had to spend a night in this city because my connection flight to Rome was grounded. I’m not 100% certain if my flight was grounded because of the Iceland volcanic ashes or because it had very strict parents.
