3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
About to open this when I see a news article about Zahra Chamberlain (Azaria’s half sister)’s pro-dingo advocacy. No parrots were involved. Bottle, 11C. Reddish amber with a lovely off white head. Aroma of pongy over-ripe tropical fruit, pine, toasty caramel. Sweet and rich, creamy textured with lowish carbonation. Caramel is there but melds with dried apricots, lychees, kumquat. Pine tingles underneath. Some pepper. Dries out a bit with creeping bitterness, just a little heat at the end. Works well.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle from Archive Beer Boutique 030814. Hazy red colour with fine tan foam. Good combination of malt and hops in the aroma, caramel and fresh baked cookies. Heavy in the glass which is always good sign. Flavour explosion in the mouth with a myriad of flavours, very complex.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Deep red/dark copper colour. Thick creamy head and lasting lacing. Beautiful, rich aroma. Scents of pine and pineapple hops. A roasted coffee and dark chocolate initial taste, followed by a pine/woody bitter after; a little resinous. Isn’t amazing in the palate but still above average - well carbonated, reasonable density and smooth enough.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
At just on cool and into a snifter it pours with little oomph and settles headless bar a few yellow islands of suds. Oily legs grip the glass as it is swirled about. Body is almost still; a mistily hazy tawny copper in colour. Big, bold hops on the nose. Resinous, sappy, whole pine-forest that oozes with so much candied citrus, camphor, eucalypt and rose water musk - divine! Big bodied, meaty and chunky malt driven start with a powerful punch of resinous, herbaceous hops in the back. Piney, twiggy, bitter end before a lengthy, HOT alcohol finish that ties in nicely. Bitter, weedy, rose musk linger on the palate offsets the sweetness of crystal and toasted malts, and the juicy, grapefruit and orange esters that come through. Quite oily in the finish; with a peppery carbonation that manages to lift it. This is a monster of a beer. Hard hitting and full, but oh so balanced and in line as to be sessionable and approachable. I love it. Pour me another!! (33cL, BB 18/08/14, The Liquor Shed, Jandakot)
