COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
‘Sleuthhound’ was an old Scottish term for a bloodhound, though it seems that there were actually slight differences between the two dogs. It’s fitting then that Sleuthhound was originally the home-brewed beer that Bloodhound was derived from, with it featuring a different yeast, different hops and also a touch of peat-smoked malt. The result is a rich, fruity and full-bodied red ale featuring a hint of smoke.

Bottle from Archive Beer Boutique 151014. Thin head above a ruby copper coloured beer. Caramel and toffee flavours dominate.

Initial aroma was fruity hop, that gave way to a earthy, toasty caramel. Taste was sweet caramel, well balanced against earthy, smoky flavour. Reasonably full bodied mouthfeel, light carbonation. Bitterness was appropriate. Overall a well balanced and enjoyable beer.

Amber with head of coarse bubbles. Nutty toffee nose with a lingering sweetness and tastes of caramel, burnt sugar and some of the peat smoked malt coming through. Bitterness is subtle but lingers.

Bottle. Very interesting aroma - took a while to put my finger on it but yes it is - shearing shed is evident. Not in a bad way mind you - but there and not expected. Nice smoky finish. A touch metallic. Quite drinkable.

Metal, plum, red apple, cough syrup, cranberry, caramel malt. Medium body, medium sweetness and bitterness. Low carbonation. Syrupy / chewy texture. Plum cola. A disappointing beer from a brewery that has shown well otherwise.

Pours clear, dark, mahogany brown with a large, creamy and durable tan head. Excellent lacing. Very lightly smoky in the aroma, there’s a little more smoke in the taste and aftertaste. Peat smoked grain and hints of raisins and vanilla, but the flavor seemed a bit off with a hint of butter and a touch of sour too. Feel: creamy smooth; very soft, making the medium body seem pleasingly light. O: A very fine Scotch Ale with superb looks and feel.

I love ParrotDog in general as they are my local brewery! Am really enjoying the malty taste of the Sleuthhound and very glad it is now being bottled :)

A beer that I feel will be under appreciated. Scotch malts are evident but while dominant on the palate do not overpower.

The head is good, the body brown. It smells sweet, aromatic, bitter. The taste is fruity, aromatic, bitter, alcoholic-balanced. Good

Aroma of sweet cured meat that has begun sweating a little and smoke. Very strong at first. It settles and fruity (black plum?) aromas start appearing. A little later the malt becomes evident. Taste is very thick and sweet at first then follows the aroma. Finishes dry spicy with a bit of alcohol. Took me half a glass to understand what this beer is trying to say, and then I really started enjoying it, after it had breathed a little.
