Appearance- dark murky brown with a ruby tinge. Enormous foamy, cushiony head on the initial pour which gradually settles down to two fingers. Aroma- lots of chocolate, cocoa powder, chocolate malt, burnt toast, black coffee, hint of treacle. Taste- very bitter chocolate, coffee, dark malts, liquorice, chocolate raisin and slight plum hints, a bit of burnt brown sugar, a dry bitter finish. Good.

Bottle. A big, off-white head forms over a dark brown body. Roasted, chocolatey aroma with dark dried fruits, some foresty hints and coffee grit notes, It’s super soft and semi-dry on the palate, with a nice carbonation level. Full body. Coffee grit, roasted malts, dark chocolate, oats and a little bitterness in the flavor. Lasting roasted finish with a nice dryness. Sort of feels a bit one dimensional, but damn it’s fine. 140717

Bottle. Dark brown with a large frothy tan head. Roasted malt, charcoal, light vitamins, cocoa, earthy, light funky Light/medium body, oily/watery texture, high carbonation, light/medium sweet and medium bitter. Pretty flavourful and big for the abv, I am a bit undecided about the farmhouse porter idea.

Benzai (14103) - Oirschot, THE NETHERLANDS, NETHERLANDS - APR 26, 2014
Bottle @ Kings Day Tasting 2014 shared with Dutchdrebus. Very dark brown color, a lot of yeast residu floating in it, huge fizzy lively off-white head. Aroma is malts, iron, earthy. Taste malts, iron, a hint of pepper, dark malts, bitter. Average body, way too much carbonation. Fizzy high carbonation. Too bad, the carbonation really gets in the way of the flavor.

330 ml bottle from Ales By Mail, served in a shaker glass. Bottled on 13-08-2013. Slow gusher. Ruby red/dark copper, quite clear, with a huge, thick and fluffy, forever lasting light beige head. It took me a while to pour a proper pint! On the nose toasted malts, coffee powder, bitter chocolate, light smoke/ash, sour blackberries. Very interesting in the mouth, I can definitely see the "farmhouse" influence. More rustic, much more zingy and crisp. I wouldn’t call it tart or sour per se, but there is a certain edge to it. Watered down coffee and chocolate in the aftertaste, slightly spicy and almost peppery as well. Average to lively carbonation, light to medium body, slightly oily texture. Different but tasty.
