Bottle at home in London - picked up from the brewery a long, long time ago: bottled on 22 July 2013. The beer opens with a hiss and proceeds to gush, moderately enough that I can get my class beneath the stream and only a few drops of beer were sacrificed. The beer pours a rather luxurious, clear and deep garnet with a thick, long-lasting tan cream head. Seriously, almost an hour on and there’s still a persistent creamy topping. The aroma holds a fair bit of creamy toffee, lots of over-ripe fruits, berries, some butterscotch, Belgian yeast, bread, plum, nips of alcohol and spices. Medium to heavy sweet flavor with a prompt yet somewhat relaxed alcoholic punch, which is followed by syrupy fruits, rich bready malts, light tangy tangerine, some cranberry, hints of old wood. Full bodied, lightly chewy, with lively and massaging carbonation. Warming on the finish with some pleasant nips of cherry, more hearty bread, toffee, berries, raspberry, plum. Quite a beer. There’s a lot of interesting character here, and the years seem to have definitely softened the edges. If you have an early vintage of this beer, I would recommend giving it a go now. Great stuff.

Bottle at home split with Sarah picked up from the brewery a few months ago. Bit of a gusaher. Dark orange / caramel brown coloured pour with a lasting thin cream coloured head. Aroma is a bit of soy sauce, tart fruit and Belgian yeast. A little peppery phenol and brown sugar. Flavour is composed of raisiny, berry, caramel malts with dark tart fruit, a little tart acid. Palate is highly carbonated semi sweet with a semi dry finish. Lingering dark fruit, hint of choc. a bit underwhelming.

Murky dark amber - red beer, small pale cream colour head. Palate is airy and semi dry, mild fine carbonation. Smooth sweetish malts with a trace of caramel. Nice cherry tone, very slightly tart, little spice. Malt cream before the light dry finish. Nicely joined up and tasty quad.

Bottle at home from Brewtique, Macclesfield. Pretty sure this is the first English quad I’ve had, pretty solid effort. Poured dark brown with a medium beige head. Aroma of cake, marzipan, dark fruits, spice, toffee. Flavour quite malty. Yeah, thought this was pretty good. Albeit there are better quads.
