Thanks Hertie! Pours a dull, cloudy amber color with a tan head. The smell is candi sugar, earthy malt, caramel. The taste is fruit, caramel, raspberry ending a bit dry. Medium body with above Average carbonation.

Bottle at the brewery. Booze, dark fruit, roasty, lots of Belgian yeastiness. Bit of marzipan. Good.

Murky dark amber - red beer, small pale cream colour head. Palate is airy and semi dry, mild fine carbonation. Smooth sweetish malts with a trace of caramel. Nice cherry tone, very slightly tart, little spice. Malt cream before the light dry finish. Nicely joined up and tasty quad.

Bottle at home from Brewtique, Macclesfield. Pretty sure this is the first English quad I’ve had, pretty solid effort. Poured dark brown with a medium beige head. Aroma of cake, marzipan, dark fruits, spice, toffee. Flavour quite malty. Yeah, thought this was pretty good. Albeit there are better quads.

Bottle from Partizan Brewery, Bermondsey on the London Hicksters Crawl, Wednesday 26th April, Westholme Stores, consumed at Hastings Touring Park, Hastings Sunday 4th May 2014 A murky cloudy murky chestnut brown colour with an off-white head. Another Partizan beer that is from the high volume abv shelf that I like yet I’m not hugely impressed with. Like the Barley Wine there is a twang of sourness, and like the Barley Wine this fails to hit the spot for me in fact I consideted tipping the last third but I gamely continued. Fruity with a little sour unripeness and a dab of spice, the alcohol shows but it isn’t too bad. Ok A6 A4 T5 P3 Ov12 2.9

Philym (1004) - St Neots, Cambridgeshire, ENGLAND - FEB 4, 2014
Appearance: Clear dark brown with ruby highlights and a 2 finger thick ivory/tan head. Aroma: Orange, floral, stewed fruit, vinous, mineral, umami. Taste: Medium/high sourness, low sweetness and low/medium bitterness. Palate: Thick grainy texture, light/medium body, prickly carbonation, lingering dry sour, tart, vinous, malty, woody, mineral finish with very subtle chocolate. Comments: Very nice and glass lace.

Bottle from the brewery. So I cracked this open as part of a tasting with St. Bernardus Abt 12 and Westy 12. Unfortunatley it’s slightly tainted with infection as it’s got got sour notes in the nose when I open it. Pours very dark brown, some clarity, very slight off white head. Nose is malt vinegar, malty, bready, ripe fruit, light banana, caramel, candy sugar. Taste is malty, light malt vinegar, light banana, raisin, prune, dark fruits. Despite the infection it is quite drinkable and would be enjoyable were I not drinking it alongside the masters of the Quad game!

Hazy chestnut brown with fluffy beige head. Balsamic vinegar, red berries, full bodied, low carbonation, rich soy sauce, meaty gravy, sweet malt, slight acetic acid...oxidized perhaps.

Bottle from Cotteridge Wines, Birmingham. A very fizzy, mid brown, Belgian styled beer. Doesn’t feel the abv. Also doesn’t feel like a Quad: just doesn’t have the complexity, balance, depth. Feels like Leffe Brune or suchlike. But stronger. Nice enough.
