olio (5261) - Tampere, FINLAND - DEC 10, 2013
33 cl bottle.
Pours black color with a huge off-white head. Aroma is an interesting blend of hops, yeast, citric fruits and slightly toasted malts, some wooden notes appear also. Flavor of malts, ash, hints of dark chocolate, mandarin, yeast and some subtle hop notes. Surprisingly low carbonation, slightly ashy dry malty palate with a dry finish. Quite light, almost watery feel. Interesting anyway.

330ml bottle from Borough Wines. Pours super dark brown with a myriad of sinister dark flavours encompassing smoky malts, tobacco, faint liquorice, leather and a certain sourness. Nicely blended, intriguing saison.

330ml bottle from Ales By Mail. Very dark brown, massive foamy head. Musty woody hop aroma. Toasted smokey yeasty flavour. Sour woody aftertaste. Unusual, interesting & not bad.

Bottle @ cbsc shoreditch. Blackest black, smooth with a lively mouthfeel. Heavy roast notes with a lovely smokey bacon rind to top it off. Sweet!

330ml bottle. Darkest brown colour with average to huge, frothy, fairly lasting, minimally lacing, tan head. Typical saison aroma, floral yeasty notes, a herbal touch, lovage, cautious dark malty background. Taste is dry, herbal, cautious dark malty background.

Opaque dark brown - black beer with a good pale tan head. Smooth softish palate, semi dry. Soft dark malt cream. Light sourness and dark fruits. Whisper of smoke. Finishes soft and semi dry. Very light citrus at the finish. Nice - quite complex and pretty drinkable.

Bottle from the brewery. It pours deep brown with a large beige head. Aroma is roasty and spicy with coffee and cocoa. Little hops or farmhouse character. Taste is roasted malts, cocoa, coffee. Little saison character and bitter finish. Medium bodied with good carbonation. Tasty but not much in the saison category to me.

Bottle from Partizan. Pours very dark but clear brown with a small foamy beige head. Nose is front up roast with some light tang and zing to it. Quite doughy with moderate yeast focus. Taste is quite sweet and tangy. Plenty of yeasty bread. Quite peppery with bitter sweet chocolate, some light funk and herbal notes too. A solid offering but I donít think it quite comes together completely. Would happily drink though

Bottle at home. Bottled 07/10/13. Pours a very dark chocolate brown with an off white head. Aroma is yeast, coffee, choc, a little bubblegum and dark fruit. Light to medium body, medium carbonation - foamy. Starts with light fresh fruits - both citrus and apple and a touch of trop including banana. The choc and coffee kicks in leading to more grapefruit in the bitter finish. Nice.

Bottle, at home, from Sheffield Tap. Deep, chestnut brown. Thin, lasting, tan coloured head. At first, this was all a bit stouty or porterish. (They are real words, by the way). But, thatís not all of it. There is yeasty, herbal bitterness, too. Lots of dried, vinous fruit. Lots of lots of things really. None of which really combine particularly well. My love for all things Partizan remains undiminished, however.
