RichardW (1544) - Carlisle, Cumbria, ENGLAND - MAY 19, 2013
330ml bottle. Pours thick, deep black and looks like a stout should do. Strong cocoa and dark chocolate aroma, which comes through well, there’s also treacle and brown sugar deep in the mix, dark fruit and the expected rich roast. It drinks so smoothly, hides the strength so well and reminds me why I love stouts when they’re like this.

Mid black with a tan head that clears to a film and bubbles. Nose carries dark roast malts, dark fruits, sugars, light soap, hint of smoke. Taste comprises roast malts, chocolate, a little coffee, liqourice, sugars. Full bodied with light carbonation leading to a dry finish.

Swaroga (1445) - Brussels, BELGIUM - MAY 1, 2013
33cl bottle. Black with small, tanned head. Nose : black chocolate with coffee bean. Roasted and smoky aromas of malt. Vanilla. Orange peel. Sip : oily and medium thick body. Light carbonation. Sweet, roasted and smoked with notes of cocoa. Gets bitter smoked and barnyard finish. Well hopped in the meantime. Bitter hops mingle with bitter, roasted malts. Quite nice.

stravale (2258) - Near Carrick-on-Shannon, IRELAND - APR 21, 2013
Bottle from Great Grog, Edinburgh [200413] Bottled 31/1/13
Black, thin tan head, some lacing
Aroma of roasted malts, deep roasted coffee grounds, dab of burnt toast, soft marmite, bit of smoke
Taste of roastred malts, some dark bitter chocolate, touch of liquorice, charred notes in there, alcohol well hidden, charcoal
Palate - Soft carb, medium to full body, oily creamy texture. Finish is creamy, bitter roast finish with some creamy dark plain chocolate, dryish tail with some charred roast
Overall - Well made beer that’s for sure, lots of high ratings here, for me it was rather over roasted - I’m more a fan of impys than foreign stouts

BenH (2493) - Edinburgh, SCOTLAND - MAR 29, 2013
Bottle. Black with dense tan head. Roasty ashy aroma with chocolate and coffee, also some weird sharp fruitiness, kind of like plastic. Taste again has weird plastic flavour mixed with some very nice roasty coffee and chocolate. Decent thick body and a slightly bitter finish. Something odd in here that im not in to, reminds me a bit of sorachi ace

Deep black with a small tan head. Aroma: roasted malt, cocoa powder, coffee grounds, a whiff of ash. Taste: bold coffee notes come to the fore here, with plenty of bitter dark chocolate and a slight smokiness. Silky mouthfeel, alcohol well hidden. Excellent stuff.
