Bottle @ CPK. The pour’s a deep brown color with a massive tan head. Oily, thick appearance. Attractive beer. The nose is rich roasted malts, ash, scorched earth. This is basically Sherman’s March to the Sea in liquid form. Hints of chocolate cake to keep it real. The taste is nice bitter dark chocolate. Roasted malt bitterness. Nice earthy hop bite. Slight spruce. Nice, syrupy dessert chocolate finish. The body’s full, the carbonation’s soft and active. Overall, a great beer. Really well executed. Pretty flawless.

Bottle shared at De Molen tasting. Pours black with a nice light brown head leaving nice lacing. Nice aroma of roasted malts, coffee and some chocolate. Taste is also roasted malts, coffee, some bitterness and finishes dry. Texture is not as creamy as you would hope with a beer like this. Very nice brew nonetheless.

Bottle. Pours a black beer with a small tanned head on top. Aroma has loads of coffee, some more coffee, roasted malts and light touches of licorice. Flavour returns most of the coffee flavours alongside some of the licorice dryness. Quite a sweet stout, with a long lasting afterstaste. Nice brew!

UPDATED: FEB 23, 2013 Oh yes! Almost a hip flask kind of ale. Aroma all dark chocolate. Head chocolate in colour too. Flavour in two layers smokey malts warm and comforting, followed by vanilla chocolate teasing. Finishes bitter and clean. Much too nice to stay in the glass for long!

33cl bottle. Pours jet black with thin tan collar - plenty of lacing. Aroma is full of dark fruit, roasted malt, coffee, light smoke, and a touch of chocolate. Taste follows suit with plenty of overripe dark fruit hitting the palate alongside some nice roasted notes, dark chocolate, liquorice and an earthy hop bite to finish. Lots of residual dark fruit and roasted coffee flavour. Slight booze burn as it goes down. Silky mouthfeel, highly drinkable. An excellent FES; one of my favourite styles - this didn’t disappoint.
