SarkyNorthener (1679) - Walsall (Yorkshire Expat), West Midlands, ENGLAND - AUG 2, 2013
Bottle. Black beer with medium off white head. Aroma of chocolate and a touch of lactose. Taste is burnt ash, chocolate, some dark fruits and some earth. medium bodied and a touch oily. I felt the burnt taste was too overpowering. I was a bit disappointed in this one. It was good but I was expecting a lot more.

Bottled, 330ml from Cotteridge Wines, Birmingham. Black with tan head. What a wonderful aroma on opening, rich dark chocolate and roasty malts. Sleek pour, quite big on the palate with coffee husk and liquorice, very darkly roasted malt. A bobby dazzler.

jamestulloch (1223) - Edinburgh, SCOTLAND - JUL 23, 2013
Aroma: Burnt toast, charcoal, dark chocolate, liquorice, plum and salted caramel.

Appearance: Black body with a thin beige head. Light lacing marks.

Taste: Similar to the aroma but with more coffee and a blackcurrant finish. Very bitter and roasted with virtually no hint of the high alcohol content.

Palate: Medium body with an oily mouthfeel. Soft carbonation prickle.

Overall: A lovely, roasted Foreign Stout. This bottle was 8.7% ABV.

larsga (6120) - Oslo, NORWAY - JUL 23, 2013
Small beige head quickly disappears. Opaque black body. Roasty licorice aroma with spicy milky earthy notes. Dry-sweet chocolatey licorice and wood taste with earthy spicy notes. Mid-bodied. Mild, soft, smooth mouthfeel. Dryish chocolatey spicy wooden aftertaste with roasted rice and grain notes. Lovely, delicate, vivid, highly drinkable. (0.33l bottle, from House of Trembling Madness, York.)
