sayravai (4707) - Helsinki, FINLAND - AUG 6, 2005
(Bottled) Very dark nut brown color with a small but lasting head. Bitter-hoppy aroma with hints of coffee, licorice and metal. Malty, licoricey, slightly sweet flavor with some acidity and a lightly roasty and ashy, bitter finish. Medium-bodied, slightly thin, foamy-carbonated palate. A much lighter version of Gouden Carolus series. Surprisingly thin and foamy for a bruin.

AMber, offwhite head. Hoppy, netallic aroma with chocolate. Dry and with some ashes. Licorice flavor, malty and a bit spicy. Some coffee in the finish along with salt and ashes.

UPDATED: JUL 2, 2005 (Bottled 25 cl) Originally Van den Bossche only made one "Pater Lieven" called just that - and this is it. 5,7% ABV. Darkisk with a rather atypical light body with some slightly tart notes. Dry and not very bitter - reminds me more of a dark, Danish lager. But very refreshing indeed. 070594 New 6,5% ABV version at 240498

a sim rate: Luscious Chocolatey aroma. Full liquorice flavour. Metallic to start, but chocolate and creamy finish which washes away the metallic start. No head. Awesome colour. Finish is the best bit. Oh, and it smells like bin bags.

lachesis (757) - St Idesbald, BELGIUM - MAY 1, 2005
Crimson-brown color with nice warm glow and with a small ight colored head. Aroma’s of sweet malts, nuts and caramel and some roasted accents too. Flavour is sweet, malty, nutty and has a stange fruity accent of pear-jam. The taste is a bit thin and it ends with a slight bitterness and some hints of roasted malts.

11.2 oz bottle, best before end 2002 - sampled this past weekend. This is a nice, solid Belgian ale.

The beer erupted when I popped the cap, tan sudsy foam streaming down all sides of the bottle. I had to wait two minutes before I could begin a pour. Oddly, the head of this murky brown ale vanished almost immediately. The aroma is sweet caramel malts, raisins, dates, and licorice. This has a very soft, lively carbonated mouthfeel. The flavor is sweet caramel with dried fruits and pepper. There’s a bit of nutty, hoppy bitterness in the finish. I probably would’ve likes this more had I been able to drink more than 60% of the bottle’s contents.

(on bottle) Clear reddish-brown, witch slightly beige head. A small carameled nose and a soft malted mouth. Slightly bitter lash in finish, but still very sweet beer.
