3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
This beer has a dark brown body - hue apperance and a coarse licht brown scum collar. I have drunk the beer from the bottle and it had a lot of carbonic acid. The initial flavor taste is fruity.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Pours a lot like a soda. Bubbley darker red/brown body with a very soda-like tan head. Kind of a weak, malty aroma. The flavor is carmel malts and nuts with a bad molasses-like finish. Not much going on here. Drinkable once you get past the aftertaste.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
This is generally my safest bet when it comes too new beers as i love the style, but maybe im running out of good one’s. Aroma seems minimal though as it settles around, with great head retention i must say, gives some sweetish nutty fruity notes, as i love but just not enough of them. Taste is also minimal with sameilar flavours to the aroma. This is a weaker belgiun fellow so im not suprised it is a little weaker, but a little too weak maybe.

2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
Bottled. A chestnut brown coloured beer with very little head. The aroms is thin with only a little nuttiness coming through. The taste is also too thin, some wood and nuts but disappointingly dull.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Marcello’s Wine Market, Baton Rouge, La. - 11.2 oz bottle. Pours a cola colored dark brown with a mocha colored head - decent - sticky lacing. Slightly winey aroma, a bit of chocolate. Flavor is slightly winey with some sweet date notes and some back end vinegary notes, suffering a bit from age obviously, bottle says best by end of 2003. Mouthfeel is still thick and somewhat creamy though. Will look for a bottle with a better date.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
(Bottled) Very dark nut brown color with a small but lasting head. Bitter-hoppy aroma with hints of coffee, licorice and metal. Malty, licoricey, slightly sweet flavor with some acidity and a lightly roasty and ashy, bitter finish. Medium-bodied, slightly thin, foamy-carbonated palate. A much lighter version of Gouden Carolus series. Surprisingly thin and foamy for a bruin.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: JUL 2, 2005 (Bottled 25 cl) Originally Van den Bossche only made one "Pater Lieven" called just that - and this is it. 5,7% ABV. Darkisk with a rather atypical light body with some slightly tart notes. Dry and not very bitter - reminds me more of a dark, Danish lager. But very refreshing indeed. 070594
