COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Not your typical porter, this is chocolaty, easy drinking, and slightly roasted with a touch of toast. Don’t look for the coffee notes you are used to in porters, but rather a nice subtle balance between roast and malt that distinguish this “brown porter” from the more common “robust porter” and lend to a quaffable drink year round.

An average porter. A nice roasted aroma. Deep brown color with minimal lacing. The roasted malts I tasted are preferable to the heavy sour malts of some porters. I detected a slight earthy and chocolate tone as well. The palate was a little light. The uniqueness was not there.

Dark pour from can. Taste is milk chocolate, coffee, tobacco and creamy malt. Nice.

Can. Head is initially small, frothy, light brown, mostly diminishing. Body is dark brown. Aroma is moderately malty (chocolate, roasted grain), lightly hoppy (flowers), with a note of vanilla, light note of leather. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly to moderately bitter. Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation. Decent and free from flaws, but pretty plain (and too lastingly sweet to be a good session/quaffing beer).

Nose gave away right away that this had a major DMS problem...and this was on tap at the brewery. First taste confirmed it with butter overwhelming any hints of toast or chocolate malt. Flat out terrible.

Can. Pours a dark brown with a half finger of rapidly settling, light tan head. Thon, stringy lacing. Aroma is malty, sweet, chocolatey, alcohol. Flavor is sweet, malty, mildly roasted, dark malt, nutty, rich but mellow/smooth chocolate, mildly fruity finish. Super drinkable. Soft carbonation, medium body, and very smooth texture. A pleasant, mildly roasted, chocolatey, mellow porter, delicious.

On tap at Pateros Creek poured a clear reddish brown with a small lasting tan head. Aromas of roastiness, carmel and cocoa. Palate was medium bodied and smooth. Flavors of roastiness, cocoa and lighty carmel with a smooth lingering cocoa finish.

I really like this beer. Especially when it’s cooler outside. The aroma is pleasant, with strong roasted malt and chocolate notes. The body is light, but appropriate for the: style. Easy drinking, low hops, very session-able. Smooth and delicious.

If you like Porter’s you need to try this one. If you don’t like Porter’s you also need to try this one. You might start to like them. This beer makes my top 10 list and my list is long.

UPDATED: OCT 20, 2012 This is the the beer that comes to mind when I hear the word ’porter’. It hits the palate with a mild roast, then a hint of chocolate malt. Not a heavy beer at all, but rather very sessionable.

This brewery is right down the street from my home, so I frequent it often. Their Cache La Porter is the first "Brown Porter" style I have had outside of England (yes, I have tasted this style of beer in the country where it was created). Based upon the comments for this beer so far, it’s quite clear that these raters don’t understand the style, and have probably never consumed this style before. A brown porter is supposed to be a very light, easy drinking style of porter. It’s a session ale that the English are known for. Session means easy drinking. If this beer were thick and heavy like all other porters it wouldn’t be a good brown porter. If you have ever had this style in an English pub, then you would know that this brewery recreates this brown porter style to perfection. I love this beer and will now be having another one. Cheers!

On tap at the Pateros Creek taproom. Pours a brown color with white head. Burnt, roasted, toffee flavors. Very weak flavored porter. Kind of interesting that this beer has 3 ratings of (5) by people with under 10 ratings. Hmmmmmm. Either way, this beer is pretty weak.
