I love this style. And I love that a beer of 5.5% can kick out the flavours of some of its stronger cousins. Lovely hazy orange with small white head and decent lacing. On the watery side of medium bodied, but enough carbonation and creaminess to make it a pleasure on the palate. Banana and clove, of course. A bit too sweet at the end perhaps, otherwise great.

Pours a thin head on a hazy darker straw colored body. The aroma is banana and dry grains. Nice and pleasant. The taste has a balance with mild lemon bitterness and some sweetness in the background. The texture is smooth with low carbonation. An excellent hefe.

Bottle from SuperValu, Longford [260614]
Orange, very hazy, big frothy white head, some lacing
Aroma of soft wheat, tangy, bit tart, soft peppery spicy, no ’clove & banana’, soft fruit
Taste of soft wheat, now getting soft banana, touch of clove, mellow spicy, soft fruits, bit yeast, nice gentle flavour, maybe flattens out a bit in the middle
Palate - soft carb, medium body, smooth and creamy, fairly sweet, bit sticky. Finish as main flavour, some powdery wheat in the finish
Overall - Easy drinking, pleasant, quite sweet - I prefer this hefeweizens to the overly clove and banana ones

Despite it’s so popular, so easy to buy, so common beer, it’s still so good. It’s a weizen from which you can start drinking wheat beers. Has a sweet banana aroma.

Box at hotel. Enjoyable summer beer with cloudy golden appearance and a eager enduring head. Smells of the wheat used and tastes slightly banana sweet, light on the bitterness. For a boxed beer, this was a very positive surprise.
