3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Adherent and compact foam, optimal persistence. Aspect veiled and loaded with a good aroma of wine cellar and mildew. Optimal representative of its style. One excellent Weisse.

UPDATED: MAR 20, 2005 Nice Hefeweizen, just not the best ever in my opinion. It is very easy to drink. It starts off bitter but becomes less bitter as you drink it. Very pleasant aftertaste as well.

It’s hard to believe I am finally just rating this beer. It’s really one of the top Hefe’s coming out of germany. Good clove/banana aroma, It’s always so damn consistent. That’s perhaps what I like most about it.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Hazy gold, tending to very light brown - ver vibrant. Nose of full of character and its very easy to pick to bubblegum and banana notes. A little on the confectionary side but very appealing.
Follows up well in the palate although not overly fruity as they nose might suggest. Not shy on the fizz but doesn’t detract and some slightly bitter notes finish a very good beer.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours turnid amber/dark straw with big creamy head. Nice aroma of hopcit, yeast, banana, spice. Tastes fruity, with some finishing yeast, cloves, and hopcit. As with all the Paulaner beers I’ve had, this one is well balanced and complex. Paulaner is the beer equivalent of JVC electronics.......maybe not the best in any style, but you know it’s going to be reliably great.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
NIce malty moderate with some citrus to the nose. Huge head of frothy white micro bubbles. Amber in color. Very lacey legs on the side of a dimpled mug. Cloves and bananas nicely spiced hint of cinnamon and lemons. Medium body weight in the mouth. Watery and very welcomly refreshing. Very good wheat beer.

Recently drank one of these and a Spaten Franziskaner, comparing two Bavarian Hefe-Weiss beers. My wife preferred the Spaten, but I give the Paulaner a very slight edge -- it has a bit more "presence" in flavor and aroma.
I think I’ll have to test the pair all over again! [;-)
