3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Onenote81 (896) - Winston-Salem, North Carolina, USA - APR 30, 2012
Originally reviewed: 11/8/08. Pours a tawny brown with about an inch and half foamy head. Nice bubbles coming off the bottom of the drink. Clear as crystal. Weak retention and lacing.
Smells of spice and floral hops. Some citrus also. Nice malt sweetness pulling through.
Taste of slight spices. Good balance of malt and hops with low bitterness at the finish.
A little watery, but smooth nonetheless. A pretty good marzen, but I’ve had better.
2.3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20 JK (3503) - Uptown, Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - APR 16, 2012
On tap at Gasthof’s, Northeast Minneapolis. Light yellow color, with just a little haze. Flavor has simple malt and yeast. Flavor is simple and mild, intending for drinking in quantity, and sacrificing flavor and aroma to get there. If this beer was inexpensive, it would be a good session beer, but it costs to much, and has nothing to offer.

Crosp, strong, bubbly, refreshing. Pours light yellow cloudy with a thin head...one of the best Oktoberfest brews I’ve ever had.

Pours clear gold into a Stein. Bright white head with medium retention recedes to skim rim. Cookie aromas. Soft with sweet caramel upfront turning to a hint of bitterness before the sweet bready finish.

Poured from a BFC. Very light in color. Very sweet and malty. Definitely tastes like a German beer. Easy drinking. Goes down smooth in a big mug.

My favorite German Oktoberfest. Served on tap at Billy Groat Gruff’s in Ourray, Co., you’d think you were in the Bavarian Alps. Amber-orange colored. A sweet finish to the bottom of the stein. This brew was invented by Spaten, but Paualaner has perfected it to be a great beer with German sausage, hackbraten, or eisbein. Prost!

From the 1 quart can stamped 05-20-11-02:20:12. Cool big can! I am saving this one. The pour is pale yellow with a tremendous shaving cream foamlike head. The aroma is vibrant with German malts and yeast. The body is medium and smooth and holds its texture on my tongue. The taste is vaguely malted but also oddly bitter. It is a decent seasonal.
