CaptainCaveman (4), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA does not count Aug 11, 2008 Extremely impressive Oktoberfest beer. One of the best, if not the best that I have ever had. Dark reddish amber color, crystal clear, pours with a perfect 1" of head. Smell is very typical and fairly sweet, taste was just wonderful, the start and finish were totally different but each was quite good. Go try this brew! TheSponge (269), Lynnwood, Washington, USA Aug 9, 2008 Updated: Oct 7, 20081 pint, .9 fl. oz. bottle purchased at QFC in Mukilteo, WA. Pours a brown amber, with a very malty flavor profile. This is probaly one of the best Oktoberfest beers I’ve ever had from a bottle. shrubber85 (2832), Wallhalben, Germany Jul 26, 2008 One Liter CAN! Sour barley and caramel malt aroma. Medium yellow color with moderate but quickly disappating head. Slightly sweet barley malt flavor. Decent - nothing great. Primarily meant to be drunk a liter at a time. ericandersnavy (1039), crossroads, Texas, USA Jul 12, 2008 bottle. poured clear amber with a thin cream colored head. retention was ok, could be better. aroma favored caramel with a slight citrus. flavor was caramel with some hop bitterness in the end. a bit watery though. v64 (74), Austin, Texas, USA Jul 4, 2008 Amber in appearance, small head. Strong malty aroma. A bit too hoppy to taste for a Maerzen, in my opinion. It’s not as sweet compared to others either. Some carbonation. Not a bad beer, but there are others of this style that are better. hoplover (166), Corpus Christi, Texas, USA Jun 11, 2008 Amber in color with a rich creamy head, and a smooth, lightly hopped flavor. Dmalone102 (216), Denver, Colorado, USA Jun 6, 2008 This tastes oxidized and skunky, even for an import. I love octoberfests in general, and I know a lot of people enjoy this beer, so maybe I got an extra old one.
The color is a nice amber, good for the style.
There is a good malty flavor under the oxidation, but The hop character might be a tad too much for the style.
pojo41 (315), Hattiesburg, Mississippi, USA Jun 6, 2008 Bottle. Poured a copper color with a fluffy off-white head. Very nice malty aroma. No real hop character in the aroma. Good flavor of malt with a touch of sweetness. Not as sweet as some maerzen beers. I thought this was a very good beer.
