islay (470), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA Apr 26, 2008 12 oz. bottle, 2007 vintage, labeled "Paulaner Oktoberfest Marzen." Toasty malt aroma features caramel and mineral water scents. The smell is simple but not unpleasant. Pours a clear, effervescent, pale sable. Moderate amount of beige head. Produces some lacing. Caramel malt sweetness with a touch of hops in the taste. Becomes cloyingly sweet upon multiple sips. Mineral, bordering on metal flavors. Pitted fruit and raisin in the finish. Forgettable at first, but soon it becomes almost gross. Light, mineral aftertaste. Light body. Fizzy and soft in the palate with some liveliness. Numbs the tongue. This is an uninspired example of an uninspired style. The bottle was free to me, but it still wasn’t worth the cost. This is not a good beer, and I don’t know how folks can stomach this stuff en masse in the fall. Lothore (276), California, USA Apr 26, 2008 A- Pours a deep sunset orange color with a 1.5 finger head which dissipates fairly quickly. Appears to be very carbonated.
S- Smells sweet, fruity apricot notes as well as floral hints.
T- Taste is wheaty and bready with hints of peach and apricot as well as some floral tastes.
M- Mouthfeel is highly carbonated and fairly thick.
D- This is very drinkable by any standard. I’m happy to kick a few of these back as fall begins. mabjork (580), Vasa, Finland Apr 26, 2008 Bottled. pale golden in color, minor white head. The aroma is sweet and hoppy. The flavour is swwt and has a mild and appealing taste. Like a promise of the summer to come (after winter). kidmartinek (972), austin, Texas, USA Apr 23, 2008 Pours a rich amber with a generous head of 1.5 inches that lasts. Smell like rich malt. Flavor is mild, yet full and very drinkable. Flavor has notes of wheat, barley, and nut. Finishes is a little sweet and slightly bitter. GirlyBeer (183), Biddeford, Maine, USA Apr 19, 2008 Hoppy and sweet aroma. Pours a light copper color. Sweet taste with a smooth finish. Overall, not great, but not bad. This is a drinkable beer but it didn’t blow me away. kpresley77 (133), Jackson, Georgia, USA Apr 19, 2008 Bottle pours dark copper with light head. Malt flavor and not to much carbonation. Creamy finish slight hops flavor. I really liked this Oktoberfest. spikester (602), Salem, Oregon, USA Apr 18, 2008 Pours copper-dark amber from the 12 fluid ounce bottle. Minimal head with few lacings.
Aroma is vegetal.
Flavor is sweet caramel malts with little hop taste until the dry bitter finish. The alcohol is a bit obvious. Listed as 5.8% on the label. Probably much better on tap at the Oktoberfest.
Nice smooth palate.
Not a bad beer by any means. I’ve enjoyed better beers from Paulaner. travita (1851), Frisco, Texas, USA Apr 14, 2008 Copper colored with a good head. Smells is very malty with some caramel. Taste is easy going down again malty. Pretty tasty stuff. Easy to drink a lot of this at Oktoberfest.
