dogfishho (172), Bloomfield, New Jersey, USA Nov 3, 2006 This Octoberfest pours a dark amber color with a sepia toned, creamy head. The aroma is mostly malty with a caramel sweetness. This carries through to the flavor which is purely sweet malt. I am a big fan of the style, and this is a great representation as it is incredibly well balanced. The mouthfeel is smooth, with very little hop bitterness. Overall, I could drink 10 of these at a time. Very good, if not somewhat unassuming. brianprentiss (473), Portland, Oregon, USA Nov 2, 2006 great beer all around, perfectly balanced. from bottle, day after Halloween, tasty. bdjames29 (272), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA Oct 31, 2006 Bottle. Very nice, well above average Marzen. Clear, bright orange/amber color with a white head. Malty, tasty and delicious. Very smooth and balanced. A very solid marzen - will check it out again next year. My full rec. Moz (613), Gothenburg, Sweden Oct 28, 2006 Bottle. Pale yellow with a white head. Smells like 5-56 (I can’t bother explain... ;-) ). Flavour is a bit sourish, I had higher expectations... vyvvy (2023), Hazelwood, Missouri, USA Oct 27, 2006 Pours clear amber with an orange tint and a pillowy beige head. The aroma is very rich and bready toffee with caramel malt - lots of biscuit qualities. Medium body that starts out rich and smooth and finishes sharp and crisp and had light sharp carbonation. The taste starts with the biscuity caramel / toffee. The finish has some spicy hops and is much drier than it starts out. A very nice oktoberfest. thomasacross (129), Edina, Minnesota, USA Oct 25, 2006 Bottle. Pours amber with perfect head. Aroma is subtle. Slight bitterness at front but finishes sweet and malty. Very drinkable. Perhaps too fizzy in the mouth for an Octoberfest, but despite all the qualms, one of my absolute favorites. GreatLibations (1440), Last Supper, Arizona, USA Oct 25, 2006 Pours a beautiful deep amber honey coloer w/ medium semi cremy froth. Aroma is malty. Medium nectar w/ mellow residual effers. Flavors are fruity w/ cooked caramel and nuances of dried musty grasses. Earthy w/ a malty backbone. Malty finish lingers w/ a touch of hay. A nice specimen. I understand it’s appeal but Ayinger is a for better product. BeerBiker (1384), Odense, Denmark Oct 24, 2006 [Bottle from Alexander shared in Palles summerhouse.]
Paulaner makes a lot of good german beers and this one is included. Lots of ingredients and nice aftertaste.
