50cl bottle from some beer store in Gräfelfing. Pours a clear, deep brown colored body with a slight reddish hue. Finger-width, creamy and frothy, tan head that dissipates slowly and leaves a nice lacing. Aroma is nutty and toasty with a light caramel note, a pleasant roast, some prune dark fruits, touches of chocolate, a hint of bread, and a slight hop note. Flavor is similar. Light chocolates and nutty toast up front with a light caramel, prunes and raisins, bread, roasts, and a light hop spice. Finishes clean and dry with a light maltiness, some roasts, and a bit of a chocolate note. Lengthy aftertaste following a medium, smooth body and a soft, moderate carbonation. Overall, a damn good dunkel. Well balanced with a lot going on and very easy drinking. Great beer.

Rewelacyjny tradycyjny Dunkel prosto z Monachium. Ladna granatowa etykieta i piekny rubinowo czerwony kolor, a piana wielgachna i nie opada, mocno wystaje ponad granice szklanki. Smak slodowy, karmelowy, nuty chmieli aromatycznych, finisz wytrawny. Polecam

Half-litre in Maximilian’s, Berlin on 22 Feb 2013. Really enjoyed this: reddy-brown colouring with a good full head of off-white foam which tried to hang around for a while. Malty nose: woody, nutty, with caramel notes, earthy too. The taste was also malty: bready and biscuity, not overly sweet compared to some Dunkel brews. Body depth seemed deeper than most also. Coffee and chocolate hints arrive as the beer warms a little, not that I allowed the beer to warm much, I was drinking it too fast!

Appearance: Deep reddish brown, clarity good, frothy light tan head endures. Aroma: Pumpernickel, toffee, licorice, figs, mild floral hops in the background. Flavour: Burnt brown sugar, caramel, raisins, nice bready malt profile. Mouthfeel: Snappy carbonation up front, medium bodied and smooth through the middle, malty finish, not much hop bitterness. Overall: Gorgeous dunkel lager, overjoyed to find this in Koh Chang Thailand, never even seen it before today!

Nicely done dunkel from this Munich stalwart. Deep aroma of roast malt, dark brown with thin beige head. Taste is smooth a mild bitterness that lasts on the palate. One of the better Bavarian dunkers.

Brotzeit is!!

Deep ruby, clear, off white head; malty aroma coupled with faint candy fruits; a solid sweetish malt base, slightly roasted with hints of raisiny chocolate bars; good, easy drinking dunkel.

500 mL bottle from Beers of Europe into a porcelain mass. Nice dark colour, fine bubbly head. Mixture of hop and roast in the aroma. Light chocolate roast taste, smooth. Goes down pretty quickly! Pleasant, fairly complex.
