Test vom 7.12.2006, Gebinde: Glasflasche

This was actually at The Brewery in Larnaca, Cyprus, where is was labelled as the house dunkel. The keg told me what beer it really was. Golden chestnut with caramel head. Nice fresh grain aroma. Sweetish character, sort of nutty, with lots of brown sugar.

Draught at Paulaner’s Lübeck. Clear red brown coloured with a medium sized off-white head. Malty aroma of caramel, hay and bread with notes of hops. Malty flavour of hay, caramel and bread with notes of hops, cardboard and liquorice. Hoppy finish.

sinte (349) - Udine, ITALY - JUN 30, 2011
Bottle 0.5 L. Brown body with reddish shadings; small, fizzy, white head, mostly diminishing with a fair lacing. Moderate malty aroma (grains, caramel) with notes of raisins and maybe some prunes. Sweet flavour with a moderate bitter character that comes up while drinking. Light-to-medium body with a watery texture; soft carbonation.

Test vom 11.9.2006, Gebinde: Glasflasche Noten: 13,9,9,9,14,9 - 9,65

Rating #590, bottle shared with Amer and he got it from someone just arriving from Germany

It’s a light brown beer with ok head. Aroma is bread, caramel and alcohol. Flavor is somewhat dissapointing with both less bread and caramel than I expected, but still average. A tiny bit of metal as well. Palate is quite standard as well; a bit thin but soft. I’ve certainly had better dunkels, but I’ve had worse too.

crossovert (7608) - Illinois, USA - MAY 19, 2011
500ml bottle best before March ’12. It pours a nice looking dunkel reddish brown but the head is sudsy and dissipates immediately with no lacing. The smell is mostly grainy with some caramel and a hint of raisin. The taste is sweeter and surprisingly more bitter than most dunkels. It isn’t the perfect balance though. It is hinged upon more cloying-like sweetness and more flavorless bitterness instead of that sweet but subtle sweetness and balancing hop flavor that a good dunkel should exhibit. Nevertheless it isn’t bad, but it certainly could be more refined.

At Paulaner Bräuhaus in München. Poured brown in colour with off-white head. Roasted malts in aroma. Flavour lots of roasted malts, perhaps even some burnt notes as well. Aftertaste just a bit dark sweet bread.

50cl Bottle from De Bierkoning. Clear brown colour, creamy off white head. Aroma of chocolate malts, light roasted malts, bit of caramel. Flavour is light sweet, malty, chocolate, light roast, light dry bitter sweet finish. Light to medium bodied. Fine.

Brown and clear. Has an off-white head, medium duration. Malty aroma, flour, and toasted. Flavor is moderate sweet, more toasted notes, faint syrup. Creamy texture and soft carbonation.
