2.7 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
500ml bottle shared with Finn in the biergarten at Viktualienmarkt, München. Clear ruby brown with a filmy layer. Sweet malts dominate the vague smell. Roasted, but not burnt malt in flavour plus sweet toasty notes. Maybe a bit too sweet. Medium bodied (18.06.2007)

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Draught Chestnut-brown beer, red-shot, under a tight dense cream-beige head. Munich cark malts, chocolate, cacao powder, sweet, dark bread. Dry, nearly woody, but still bready flavours - sweetness near gone. Autumn leaves. Light to medium bodied, very slick. Really decent dunkles, not too sweet. Tasted at the Paulaner Brauhaus @ Kapuzinerplatz - brewed exactly where?

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle. Coffee malt aroma. Dark brown color - moderate head. Nice coffee malt flavor to match the aroma - just a bit on the weak side but otherwise very nice.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Draught at Paulaners im Spreebogen, Alt Moabit, Berlin. Only went here because we found Brewbaker to be shut during the day (despite info to the contrary) and this place, which is mentioned in the Germany GBG, is nearby. I was very surprised when I realized later that I had not rated this beer. Sweetish and malty. Touch of milky chocolate in the aroma. Palate is more sticky caramel. Gets a bit cloying. Nice rich, clear red/brown colour.

3.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
500ml bottle best before March ’12.
It pours a nice looking dunkel reddish brown but the head is sudsy and dissipates immediately with no lacing.
The smell is mostly grainy with some caramel and a hint of raisin.
The taste is sweeter and surprisingly more bitter than most dunkels. It isn’t the perfect balance though. It is hinged upon more cloying-like sweetness and more flavorless bitterness instead of that sweet but subtle sweetness and balancing hop flavor that a good dunkel should exhibit. Nevertheless it isn’t bad, but it certainly could be more refined.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Vom fass, at the Paulaner pub down by the Weser in Bremen. Dave says, ’sweet tarmac nose’. Sprinkle of Dry Roasted. Watery Westy nuts n’ choc, hazelnut and cookieish softness creeping in at the end. Liquorice? Gentle, but good.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
A Mes rate:
Not bad. Still not sure about German dunkels. Candy sugar and vanilla in the nose. Wonderful looks. Deep mahogany brown colour with a thin but well lasting head leaving spotty lacing. Creamy flavour. Chocolate hints and a stout like coffeeness about it.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle. High off-white creamy and long lasting head. Hazy brown body with a lot of yeast sediments. Sweet fruity and yet spicy malt aroma. Sweet caramel limonade like flavo, round and without bitterness and little carbonation.
