Bottled. Aroma is very interesting, light smoked, caramel, light nutty, herbal. Brown color, beige head, good lace. Light sweet, herbal, bitter, caramel, light sourish. Bit on the thin side but overall a very interesting Dunkel.

UPDATED: FEB 19, 2007 Another version of the Paulaner Dunkle. Big red color with tan head that seemed not to want to leave. Big nose of roasted malts, and other flavors like coffee and chocolate. Palate is rich and smooth. Good to the last drop.

Draught in Munich. Pours russet-mahogany, with beige head. Fruity toffee aroma, and quite sweet on the tongue, with malt and raisins predominating. Pleasant mouthfeel. Decent Dunkel.

Simple but very, very drinkable. Reddish brown with small tan head. Sweet malts in the nose. No surprise, sweet dark roasted in malts in the taste as well, with caramel, hints of sweet chocolate, hints of sweetened coffee. No hop bitterness, sweet finish. Average mouthfeel. But very enjoyable after a long hot day walking in Singapore.

Nicely done dunkel from this Munich stalwart. Deep aroma of roast malt, dark brown with thin beige head. Taste is smooth a mild bitterness that lasts on the palate. One of the better Bavarian dunkers.

BlackHaddock (3885) - Shropshire, ENGLAND - MAR 11, 2013
Half-litre in Maximilian’s, Berlin on 22 Feb 2013. Really enjoyed this: reddy-brown colouring with a good full head of off-white foam which tried to hang around for a while. Malty nose: woody, nutty, with caramel notes, earthy too. The taste was also malty: bready and biscuity, not overly sweet compared to some Dunkel brews. Body depth seemed deeper than most also. Coffee and chocolate hints arrive as the beer warms a little, not that I allowed the beer to warm much, I was drinking it too fast!

(bottle) clear reddish amber colour with a tall tan head; aroma starts with a hint of metal, then some smoked fruit, caramel, and roast; slightly creamy palate; balanced flavour with a long light bitter finish; mild and very pleasant
