When the Original Münchner was brewed for the first time at the end of the 19th Century, it was a spectacular success. With its hoppy taste, subtle, light and elegant, it becomes ever popular. Today the Paulaner Original Münchner is the best sold Münchner Hellbier (lager beer) in the world and Paulaner's No. 1 export beer in over 30 countries with its wonderfully subtle, spicy, naturally hearty taste.

Very clear light golden beer with average white head. Grainy/bready malts dominate the aroma, even a bit cardboard. Herbal hops in the background. The texture is a bit too thin, the body a bit light. Yet the beer lacks the smooth drinkability that other beers of this style have. I think the original is beat, others are better!

Can from Seoul Plaza. Aroma cardboard, raw grainy, rusty iron (metallic). Clear golden colour, moderate white head, long retention. Taste is very empty and watery, only lightly parading the off-flavours, cardboard and iron. Light bitterness and very light grassy sharp hops flavour. Thin bodied and almost moderate carbonation. Definitely nothing I would order again.

Draft. Yellow in color with a one finger white head. Grainy aroma with a touch of honey. Mild sweet flavor, grainy, simple. Lighter bodied with average carbonation. Above average but fairly standard helles.

Very nice lager. I find it very hoppy for the style, which I liked. Refreshing and drinkable.

Aroma is really harsh. Some moist-grassy hops and earthy cheese. Taste is mostly water (sorry) with a little bitterness in the end. However a full body with well-tempered carbonation. All in all: not my favourite.

Gee-gosh-golly, wish this was available in 12-pak format (like the Hefe-Weizen, Marzen and Wiesn are) because this here is a really easy beer to enjoy. This is what I suspect some pale lagers currently manufactured would someday like to be like, or should be.

UPDATED: MAR 1, 2016 Bought as "Paulaner Münchner Hell". Bottled May 2015. L: Pours clear pale color between yellow and green. Thick two fingers white head disappears quickly. Carbonation is low. S: Tender warm smell of fresh baked bread, baked pork, with some hops on the background. T: Rich taste of dough and oats with nice hoppy aftertaste. F: Fits the style. O: Very good helles, rich in taste and refreshing. I’d highly recomend to try it.
