Commercial Description:
The Original Münchner Urtyp is another Münchner Original, a traditional tasty pleasure. A bit stronger and darker than the Original Münchner it has a convincingly noble malt aroma with a well-rounded bitter taste. In order to survive long transportation, it used to be brewed with a higher content of basic ingredients. Today this strong export beer is particularly popular at many of the public fairs from spring until autumn.

Average smell, average taste, average overall experience. It looks good and laces well but the overall enjoyment is only average.

Bottle brown, 500 ml, got it in Munchen.
Appearance: Pours shiny, bright, crystal clear golden body with a strong saturation and slowly decarbonating, head is slightly off-white, dense, pillowy, frothy, initially medium, not decreasing significantly in its size, leaving nice lacing
Aroma: Nice and soft yeasty, sweetish malty base, notes of honey, whipped cream, grainy, papery-cardboardy but not that sharp as in Classic German Pilseners, some peppery-herbal scents, not very sophisticated, not particularly strong, quite regular for a Pilsener style.
Flavour: In fact very similar to Paulaner Helles, the same ingridients but more graphite-grainy highlight, more hoppy profile than in Helles but still the hops are not perceptively different from Helles, quite yeasty and alcoholic, not full in terms of flavour, I expected it to be more bitter and upfront in its flavour, however, still honest, natural and very good brew, finish duration is moderate.
Palate: Body is medium, texture is watery, definitely not dry but rather sweetish, carbonation on palate is soft, finish feel is clean, slightly grainy, unfortunately nothing more.

Had on tap at Lowenhaus in Rome. Poured clear light yellow with bubbly white head. Aroma very lemony and a bit sweet. Flavor very clean, malty sweet base with nice citrus presence and medium mouthfeel, bit creamy almost. Overall, very nice light beer for a hot day.

50cl bottle @ Munich. Pours clear golden with a creamy white foam and lacings. Malty and crisp. Fresh hay and grain. Buiscuit notes. Medium to watery palate. Bitter dry end. Very clean. Drinkable

Sampled in Fussen. A very surprisingly good pilsner. Drinks nicely. Pours a little cloudy for a pilsner but drinks smooth with a good malty base. Pours with a lot of head.

Crushed with Jakebra at Falling Rock. Aight brew. Not offensive but incredibly malty with a very dry finish that makes the tongue feel like sandpaper. But it’s aight.

Clear golden coloured body with a frothy white head and tons of small bubbles rising from the bottom. Aroma of fresh malt, metal, grass, light sugars and a twist of lemon. Medium-bodied; Metallic flavour with a long lasting maltiness tucked in with some light caramel and apples (apfel). Aftertaste is short, mild and simple - dry malt. Overall, a decent beer, but actually below my expectations! I sampled this 50 cL bottle purchased from Tengelmann Grocery store in Munchen, Germany on 15-November-2008, sampled from home in Washington on 10-February-2009.
