zakkbironia (82), Athens, Greece May 13, 2009 Updated: Sep 1, 2009Dark- red , beautiful colour and very nice taste. Strong alcohol percentage along with a bitter finish give this one a good advantage to other red beers. Classic german taste with red beer sweetness. Perfect match! ScottyP (314), Brentwood, Tennessee, USA May 8, 2009 Pours a clear dark red-brown with a tan head. Flavor of caramel malts, fruit, hint of alcohol. Flavor is similar, with a surprising, although slight, bitterness in the finish. Wasn’t too thrilled about this one. Diggin the 7.9% though, a bonus point. stobbe74 (662), Denmark May 8, 2009 Bottle, 50cl. Pours a orange beer with a yellow/orange head. The aroma is malt, alcohol and fruit. The flavor follows the nose, but without the alcohol. The palate misses a little body. Overall a good beer. Baumgartner (108), Eau Claire, Wisconsin, USA Apr 30, 2009 Bottle poured to glass. Clear copper colored brew. Very malty nose with notes of licorice. Small ring of off white head. Soft carbonation. A little alcohol in the flavor of the palate. StuartCarter (11), Alabama, USA Apr 29, 2009 Smell is sweet and rich with hints of caramel. Colour is a clear reddish brown. Flavour follows the nose - rich, creamy, pleasing effervescence on the tongue. A great beer - try it paired with pulled pork BBQ, pork sausages, or roast pork. flatmatt (221), Northville, Michigan, USA Apr 24, 2009 12 oz bottle. Pours a clear amber with a small white head. Aroma is semisweet with caramel, apple, and a hint of cherry. Flavor is moderately sweet with lots of caramel and biscuit. A little green apple and hops are in there as well. Reminiscent of a Belgian dubbel in some respects. Crisp palate. yemenmocha (344), Glendale, Arizona, USA Apr 23, 2009 Hazy dark orange pour with thin white head. On the light side for a dopplebock.
Nose is a whiff of alcohol with holiday pie, maybe some caramel.
Palate has a fair amount of alcohol warmth with those little chocolate covered orange wedges. Malty to caramelly sweetness mid palate and then finishes with some dry chocolate and orange on the finish. Again, alcohol warmth.
Even with the alcohol detected it remains fairly drinkable somehow. Not a turnoff at all. scanovajr (361), Stanford, California, USA Apr 18, 2009 Bottled. Pours dakr brown with a tall brown head. Aroma is sweet with notes of hops and alcohol. Taste is also sweet and very malty. Roasted malt. Full body with lots of alcohol. Thick and full body
