WISEGUY572 (1244), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 18, 2009 Draft in Singapore ... not exactly where I expected to have this first. Good nose of malts and chocolate. Appearance moderate brown, small head, tanner head and lighter body than I expected, since my standard for this beer is the Ayinger. Ditto, smaller mouth than I expected. Taste of sweet malts and caramel and floral hops, with, maybe a touch of coffee, but none of the huge roasted malt coffee and chocolate bitterness of the Ayinger. elihapa (1033), Honolulu, California, USA Apr 16, 2009 Bottle. Pours light orange with a medium head. After head dissipates, this brew is downright ominous with its bright apricot body and no carbonation! Aroma is copper, caramel, and peat. Flavor has caramel, ripe peach, milk chocolate, and cocoa. Mouthfeel is slick, but finishes a touch dry. Not sure I am completely satisfied with this beer (I am a hophead by trade), though as a Doppelbock I can appreciate it. curly (548), Nashville, Tennessee, USA Apr 14, 2009 Pours rich amber color with an inch thick tan head. Aroma is alcohol, plum, raisin, and other dark fruits. Bitter alcohol taste, cherry, and roast characters. Good creamy texture and a sturdy bitter finish. rosenbergh (843), Helsinki, Finland Apr 12, 2009 500 ml bottle. From Germany.
Reddish amber colour with tiny tan head.
Malty and buttery aroma, more like Czech Dunkel than Bock. Malts and some alcohol in flavour. Warming. Quite strong. gorditoabd (162), San Diego, California, USA Apr 12, 2009 Bottle. Pours a bright amber with a full foamy head. Aroma is bread and raisins. Taste is malt and caramel. Sweet and smoothe. Middling carbonation gives it a richer feel than the taste itself does. Pretty consistent throughout. It’s alright, but perhaps not my taste. jbye4334 (652), Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA Apr 10, 2009 (bottle). Pours a copper color. Medium size light tan head, which diminishes quickly. Sweet malt aroma. Malt and caramel tastes. Smooth finish, with light alcohol taste. Moderate carbonation. Wulfstan (509), California, USA Apr 6, 2009 Dark red-amber, it has a small creamy light tan head that shrinks very slowly, leaving a hint of lace.
The aroma is strong and rich with fermented and caramelised raisin, some plum, fresh whole wheat bread.
The taste is rich, sweet but with balancing bitterness and a bit spicey with a light bite and with a dryish, slightly bitter-zesty finish. It has rich, caramelised, fermented whole wheat bread, raisins, hint of burnt caramel building near the finish, and a hint of pepperiness.
LtDan (471), LA - Originally from South NJ!, California, USA Apr 4, 2009 Appearance: Pours a dark auburn, with a tight knit layer of foam at the top.
Aroma: A fruity mixture of banana and bubblegum. There are also scents of bready grain.
Taste: Sweet and fruity malty flavors, bready yeast , bread crust, and a modest amount of bitter hopping in the end to balance out the sweetness. Also a hint of booze.
Mouthfeel: Thick and full bodied.
Overall: Exactly what I look for in a Double Bock/ Doppelbock! Not too sweet. You know its strong, but its not overpowering with booziness.
