Commercial Description:
The Paulaner Salvator with its strong, typically malty taste is the original Paulaner. The bottom-fermented Doppelbock-Bier unites the finest hops and dark barley malt. The Paulaner monks served Salvator as a replacement for food at Lent. Their most famous brewer was Brother Barnabas, who was the head of the Paulaner monastery brewery starting from 1773. Its original recipe is today almost the same as it was in Barnabas' time. In order to protect the original recipe, Paulaner had the trade mark "Salvator" patented in 1896.

12 oz bottle. Pours a thickish light tan head, over a clear dark amber body......nose redolent of layered malts, yeast, breads.....tastes of complex heavy malts with a lightly sweet finish....mouthfeel is chewy and heavy. A lovely thing.

Crushed with Jakebra. Very sweet malt nose. Flavor has more of a scotch ale profile, but it’s a doppelbock.... Aight, that’s cool. Nice and smooth, not spectacular, but thankfully no poop.

Bottle dated 06/08 but I figured it would still be good so I bought it anyway. Nice reddish color, smells and tastes bready, grainy, some sweetness, raisin bread. Overall a tasty and easy to drink dopplebock. I need to start drinking more of these German beers! Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 01-24-2009 03:11:52

Pours a clear amber with a nice bready malt aroma. Flavor is rich malty, some breadiness, and dark fruit.

A nice amber color with an attractive dark fluffy head that formed. This was a very good doppelbock, highly recommend it. It had a big malty flavor along with a fruity finish. Noses of fruit, malts, and some slight hops.

Pretty good, about what I was expecting. Not overly sweet which is a problem in many doppelbocks. Fruity malts, especially grapes, dominate the taste. Sweet finish. Dense taste, light carbonation.

500 ml bottle in Germany. Nice brown head it was not exported so it had a nice head but went quickly. What can I say other than this is proof that Macros can brew fantastic beer. Unlike most Macros in the USA. Slight aftertaste a bit metalic. Still a great Bock.
