Commercial Description:
The Paulaner Salvator with its strong, typically malty taste is the original Paulaner. The bottom-fermented Doppelbock-Bier unites the finest hops and dark barley malt. The Paulaner monks served Salvator as a replacement for food at Lent. Their most famous brewer was Brother Barnabas, who was the head of the Paulaner monastery brewery starting from 1773. Its original recipe is today almost the same as it was in Barnabas' time. In order to protect the original recipe, Paulaner had the trade mark "Salvator" patented in 1896.

Brownish orange color out of the bottle with almost no head. Big sweet nose of caramels and alcohol. Thick creamy caramel and toffee sweetness with some rich bread and dark fruit. Hot on the tongue. Nice double bock.

Slightly metallic on the nose, with toasty roasty malts, patchy white head. Slight iron in the flavor, with sweet malt, some milk chocolate, bitter, with significant boozey flavor.

Appearance: Pours a clear, dark, deep amber body with a medium-sized, though dense, off-white head. Smell: Sweet-smelling, lightly nutty nose of dried herbs, honey, pears, and even sugar-coated figs. Taste: Lightly toasty, lightly nutty malt flavor with a definite sweetness, but it’s kept in check by an herbal spice character, the certainly noticeable alcohol, and the bitter hops. Rum-soaked fruitiness. Still though, it finishes bready and sweet with warming alcohol presence. Mouthfeel: Medium-plus body. Medium carbonation. Drinkability: A fine, respectable doppelbock, but, truth be told, it’s bit boozy for me.

Amber body with a lasting beige head. Deliciously sweet aroma of malt and candy. The brew is smooth, sweet, and very satisfying. Caramel, molasses, and red licorice. There’s a bit of alcohol warming at the end. A very good beer, and surprisingly easy to drink considering the alcohol content.
