Commercial Description:
The Paulaner Salvator with its strong, typically malty taste is the original Paulaner. The bottom-fermented Doppelbock-Bier unites the finest hops and dark barley malt. The Paulaner monks served Salvator as a replacement for food at Lent. Their most famous brewer was Brother Barnabas, who was the head of the Paulaner monastery brewery starting from 1773. Its original recipe is today almost the same as it was in Barnabas' time. In order to protect the original recipe, Paulaner had the trade mark "Salvator" patented in 1896.

Bottle. Pours a medium-thick, creamy, off-white head which tops off the clear, bubbly, deep orange-brown body, little lacing. Sweet aroma of leather, peach, grape, and barley. Velvety, not as thin-bodied as most lagers. Leaves a bit of film on my tongue. Complex flavor, rich, malty and peachy with some high notes at first, but a little too sweet. Fades into a pleasant bitter, dry finish.

12 oz bottle...pours amber brown with a fluff, mostly diminishing off-white head...no lacing. Aromas of maple syrup, caramel, spices, the dark malts and some alcohol. Flavor is sweet, and dry with notes of the above , but the alcohol is persistent and warming. Palate is thin, dry, with low levels of carbonation, and a moderately bitter sweet finish. Not overly impressed...

Sweet, a bit fruity, dry and nicely malty. A bit too sweet maybe but I do dig it.

(Bottle). Aroma is sweet caramel with distinct alcohol. Color a beautiful dark red. Head is small and whitish. Flavor sweet caramel and malt, but with way too much alcohol taste intruding, leading to a disturbing imbalance. Overall, an ok doppelbock, but nowhere near the Celebrator (or even Optimator) class.

This pours deep amber with a fine white head and has a sweet & vinous nose full of raisin and dried plum scents. Initially tastes sweet and full-bodied, but as the flavour develops the sweetness is balanced by a nutty hop character, lots of malt, a hint of roastiness and a dry alcoholic bite. The finish is dry and gently bitter.

Bottle in a train - going to Sunes birthdaysparty - shared with Mette & Lars. Clear dark red/brown - white head. High malty, raisins, brries, fruity, caramel, amber malts, roasted, nutty, light hoppy. Finishes with a alcho-bite !!!

Poured an amber brown with a medium off-white head. Fruity and malty aroma. Quite flavourful with hints of caramel, malts and fruit. Medium bodied with a slightly bitter aftertaste.

2008 Bottle. Light aroma of caramel and malts. Gorgeous appearance: dark amber with hints of orange and a light off-white head. The flavor and palate could be fuller and more complex, but this beer is robust nonetheless. Quite malty with a dark, alcohol taste as well. Very good beer.
