Commercial Description:
The Paulaner Salvator with its strong, typically malty taste is the original Paulaner. The bottom-fermented Doppelbock-Bier unites the finest hops and dark barley malt. The Paulaner monks served Salvator as a replacement for food at Lent. Their most famous brewer was Brother Barnabas, who was the head of the Paulaner monastery brewery starting from 1773. Its original recipe is today almost the same as it was in Barnabas' time. In order to protect the original recipe, Paulaner had the trade mark "Salvator" patented in 1896.

Man this is the best German beer I have ever had. Carmel flavors work with lively carb to mask the heavy alcohol. makes this smooth and easy drink. lt has an amber colour ... which is pleasant surprise because one would expect a really dark colour if you where sipping this out of the bottle before you poured it. Good stuff. .

(Bottle) Pours a reddish brown with a small creamy off-white head. The aroma is medium malty/syrupy and light hoppy with tones of caramel, syrup, dark (rye) bread, vanilla-ish marshmallows, light honey, light marzipan, light toasted almonds, and flowers. Some dried fruits and brown sugar in the undertones. The flavour is medium to full malty and light hoppy with tones of caramel, syrup, dark bread and flowers alongside a light touch of dried fruits. Some alcohol is present in the flavour. Medium to full sweet and light bitter. The mouthfeel is somewhat creamy but too clean/sterile with a light sticky touch. The finish is light numbing from the alcohol with some earthy bread-like tones lingering. Medium to full bodied.

Pours clear brown with a decent sized tan head. Aroma of sweet caramel malt. Taste of sweet malt, dark fruits and a bit of alchohol in the end. Not bad. Not too cloying, but sweet. Hey Grim, I bet you rated this higher then me!

12 ounce bottle- poured a rich amber-gold with a fair, but short-lived head. Aroma was dried fruit. Taste was dark fruit and very slightly floral. Very nice. Big points for the silky smooth palate. A good one.

Bottle. Dark ruby, dissipating head. Sweet aroma of burnt sugar and caramel malts. Sweet spicy flavour of dark fruits and dark sugar with a distinct alcohol sting. Very nice cookie dough finish. Like a less refined Belgian, but great value for money.
