Commercial Description:
The Paulaner Salvator with its strong, typically malty taste is the original Paulaner. The bottom-fermented Doppelbock-Bier unites the finest hops and dark barley malt. The Paulaner monks served Salvator as a replacement for food at Lent. Their most famous brewer was Brother Barnabas, who was the head of the Paulaner monastery brewery starting from 1773. Its original recipe is today almost the same as it was in Barnabas' time. In order to protect the original recipe, Paulaner had the trade mark "Salvator" patented in 1896.

a bright ruby, orange colour with a little head. smells like hops and sweetness. it tastes like light caramel and honey, pretty sweet overall. it feels sticky and oily in the mouth, also hides the alcohol really well. not completely soft like a darker beer, it still has the feel of lighter styles. i had one once that i had shaken up and was warm and didnt like it. but this time its really good.. good deal for the money too

341mL bottle from LCBO. Pours dark orange amber, with a small reducing white head. Nose is of sweet malt and honey. Flavour is of honey, toffee’d malt, and scorched sweet nuts. Thick, appropriate mouthfeel. Delicious.

THOUGHTS: A nice beer. This may have been the first doppel, but others have perfected the style. It does get much better as it warms. Very nice, but not as complex as some doppels or as intense as others. Bonus point for creating one of my favorites styles. TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a medium copper with an average-size, off-white head that mostly diminished. The aroma was nice but weak. There was some grain and molasses along with apple, cherry, tobacco, slight alcohol and maybe some red wine. The initial flavor was lightly to moderately sweet and lightly acidic; while the finish was moderately sweet, lightly acidic and moderately to heavily bitter with an average duration. There was caramel malt, red wine, cherries a little alcohol and some apples as well. The medium body was creamy then dry in the back with lightly fizzy carbonation and a light astringent and light to moderate alcoholic finish.

Fantastic beer...had the pleasure of enjoying this one on tap at the Yard House in Las Vegas, Nevada. Tremendous, rich, malty flavor with strong notes of fruit. Some alcohol in the finish, but still ends on a sweet note.

nice clear golden brown appearance, thin non-lasting head. Begins with a sweet malty taste which is quickly overshadowed by a chemically alcohol taste that was all that lingered. I drank half of it and poured the rest out. It was one of the least agreeable beers i’ve tasted.

Clear amber pour with a small foamy head. Rosted caramel malt aroma. Sweet malty flavor with a bit of spicy hop on the finish. Pretty standard.

(GERMAN) Pours a orange / amber color with a dissipating white head. The aroma is of caramel, honey, and figs. With a mild malt taste that hides the 7.9 % very well, and leaves a nice warm finish. Pretty good, But not quite what i expected.

this is a malty dream. spicy and caramelly, very little hop presence at all. far too easy drinking at almost 8%.
