Commercial Description:
The Paulaner Salvator with its strong, typically malty taste is the original Paulaner. The bottom-fermented Doppelbock-Bier unites the finest hops and dark barley malt. The Paulaner monks served Salvator as a replacement for food at Lent. Their most famous brewer was Brother Barnabas, who was the head of the Paulaner monastery brewery starting from 1773. Its original recipe is today almost the same as it was in Barnabas' time. In order to protect the original recipe, Paulaner had the trade mark "Salvator" patented in 1896.

Bottle pours a nice dark reddish-brown with a light tan head that quickly dissipates. The aroma is malt and a caramel sweetness that is intoxicating. Nice sweetness and creamy mouth feel, with malt and hops and a slow bitter sweet warming finish. To be savored.

Dark brown color. A nice malty aroma which follows to the strong flavor. Not my favourite style of beer, but it’s quite good as what it is.

I love this beer. My wife says it tastes like soy sauce, and it is May and it says it’s a seasonal. I wonder if it tastes different because of this. Nonetheless, with sushi or without, this beer is great. Does taste salty, though... Recommendation: drink this beer at room temperature (not fully cold anyway). Taste it!

Small, quickly dissipating head, pours amber. Sweet smelling aroma. Slight smoky flavor, smooth. A little too bitter, somewhat unbalanced in my opinion.

Alot like the Optimator, but way more fragrant. Aroma of honey, fig, and caramelly malt. I think I smelled a little sandalwood in there somewhere. Rich, sweet malty flavor of caramel, figs, grain, toast and cola. Softer CO2 would have for a better palate. Finish is a little less dirty than I had hoped for, but overall this is a solid doppel.

330 ml bottle. Pours a reddish-brown color, low head. Aroma has some notes of dark malts and blackcurrant leaves. The taste is a fairly good mix of sweet, juicy malts, molasses and hop bitterness. Slightly watery texture, fairly light body.

(Sample from September 29, 2006 Beer Club Meeting; 12oz bottle from World Market on March 18, 2008) One of my staples... surprising that I’m just now rating this. Lovely amber-orange color that gives you a visual peek into its sweet, slightly-strong taste. Aroma is sweet and malty. Flavor is strongly sweet and just a little spicy/nutty - just enough to balance out the sweetness. Comfortable body. Enjoyable to drink.

Red-brown with a small head that disappears quickly. Smell is sweet, with mild hops and raisins. Flavor is winey and kinda watery. Palate is thin and flat. I suspect that this is just a bad bottle. Well, okay, it’s not that bad. I just think that this is normally better.
