COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Paulaner Salvator with its strong, typically malty taste is the original Paulaner. The bottom-fermented Doppelbock-Bier unites the finest hops and dark barley malt. The Paulaner monks served Salvator as a replacement for food at Lent. Their most famous brewer was Brother Barnabas, who was the head of the Paulaner monastery brewery starting from 1773. Its original recipe is today almost the same as it was in Barnabas' time. In order to protect the original recipe, Paulaner had the trade mark "Salvator" patented in 1896.

Alla spina al Paulaner’s di Lubeck; colore rossiccio, schiuma poco persistente, è molto spessa, corposa, seppur ben bilanciata con il buon sapore del malto. Non va giù agevolmente, ma è buona!

Bottle pour gives dark amber color with medium off-white head that recedes after a minute. Aroma faint caramel and a bit sour, doesn’t really match the taste which is quite powerful with caramel, malts, slight dark fruits and spices. Bit of a sweet aftertaste with mild bitter hop finish. Palate medium-thick and a bit sticky. Alcohol readily apparent but not overwhelming. Would drink again, a good one.

bottle. Pours a murky amber color with small beige head. Aroma of caramel, burnt vegetables, clove. Smooth and creamy, almost silky, nice palate, very drinkable. Flavor presents sweet caramel, burnt toffee, some light spices. This is very nice. It has an earthiness, almost cellar feel to it that conjures images of monks brewing in cool, dank basements. Good to sip on by the fireside, or whenever really.

UPDATED: OCT 1, 2011 Refrigerated bottle poured into a glass. Pours a dark amber with small white head. Aroma is caramel, nicely carbonated, and lightly lacing. Taste is toasty malty caramel and a hint of nut. Good.

330ml bottle. Pours a clear black-brown, with a creamy off-white head, which dissipates quickly, leaving good lacing. The aroma is not the strongest, yet does contain a quite pleasant mix of sweet malt and plum notes. The flavour, similarly, sneaks up on you. Initially there is a moderate grassy hop bitterness, tempered by some sweetness, yet as it moves back some plum characteristics appear, with the slightest hint of coffee mingling with sweet fruit in the finish. A very easy-drinking beer for its strength, and very enjoyable.

I truly enjoy this beer - yes, it does have an alcohol flavour character to it...to my tastes a cognac like alcohol flavouring which I find addictive. Closer to a biere du garde from my experience. This is a 9pm by the fire type of beer.

I’m kind of upset. I have been teased with so many amazing Porter’s and Stout’s, that I can not longer truly enjoy another beer. I guess Lager’s still give me a thrill, and Wheat’s are alright. Anything else though, Pale Ale’s, whatever this is, just don’t do it any more.

Dark orange, off white head. Huge malt aroma, toasty and earthy - quite pleasant. Taste is slightly sweet like an Imperial IPA, but without the bitterness and plenty of malt flavor. The finish has more malt flavor - not quite toast, but something stronger. The only downside to this one is I seem to be able to detect the alcohol in it.
